What Motivates Me

by Fiona Rossiter on May 23, 2013

like-me

One of my loyal readers who comments often, yes it does feel good to get comments, left a comment on this post, which I wrote quite some time ago!(13th of October 2011 to be exact) It was great as I said, to receive the comment but the best part was reading the post again :) It made me realise that I still struggle with things like acceptance or fear of failure, whether in real life or in the bloggersphere! Reading this post again was rather sobering and also made me realise that you constantly need to reaffirm what you are doing and why, to avoid losing your way completely!

So with that in mind I thought I would share it again!

Please Like Me!

This is all most of us would like, for people just to like us! Well, thanks to modern technology and the popularity of social networking, gone are the days that liking someone in real life, is enough!

After chatting to friends recently about my blog, I had a bit of a reality check about what exactly my motivation for starting Super Mom was. For me it was always about finding something that I could do – just for me, something I enjoy and that stimulates me both intellectually and creatively. Exploring the things that inspire me and using them to engage with the world out there, was always my main aim for Super Mom.

What I have found however is that most of the blogger- sphere is very focused on ratings, traffic, how many followers you have etc. I am not going to lie and say that I don’t care about these things but you can so easily lose focus of why you are doing something and what motivates you to do it.

So what to do? I guess, go back to basics and the reason I started Super Mom in the first place, to inspire and motivate others out there, especially mothers! Which I hope that I am doing! In saying that I hope people realise that I am not in fact a “Super Mom” but I am the best darn mom I can be! I may not be a professional photographer or a master chef but I love doing all these things and sharing them with the world.

I love doing what I do and that is the most important thing. Yes – I want you to like me and follow me but not at the cost of my integrity. Anyway -life is too short to feel like everything you do is a competition.

So – the things I write about may not be world changing or life altering but they are my way of inspiring and motivating – myself and others. Thank you for being a loyal and cherished reader!

Real Women – Real Life….

by Fiona Rossiter on March 1, 2012

chicara

Today we get to look inside the life of Chicara Joubert, Chicara is the creator of the blog Lipgloss Kisses.

Tell Us About Yourself:

I live in a golf estate in Pretoria. It’s extremely beautiful and I’m very fortunate to be able to call this home.

chicara-golf-course

I have a serious passion for beauty & fashion. I’m also passionate about what I do for a living. I’m a web developer and I love my job. I’m passionate about the pretty things in life and thrive on beautiful surroundings.I have personal goals & dreams as well as business related dreams. But one of my biggest dreams, and I know this might seem inconsequential, is to visit New York City. I’ve wanted to go since I was a young child.

What Motivates & Inspires You?

I’m motivated by beautiful pictures, words and people. I treasure my family, my boyfriend and my Chihuahua’s. My dogs are like little fur children. I get inspired when I see great ideas. Interesting and thought-provoking words or ideas always inspire me to do more.

What Are Your Strengths & Weaknesses?

I’m a good listener; I’m genuine, polite and friendly and always look for the best in a person. I’m a creative person. But on the other side of the spectrum I’m a complete procrastinator; I’m a bit of a control freak and therefore never truly let my hair down.

What Are Your Fears?

I’m an anxiety-addled girl for sure. I have a fear of lightning, earthworms, flying and driving. But I’m working on the last one.

What pays the bills?

I’m a freelance web developer and animator. I’m obsessed with animation and would love to further my interest in that field.

What Do You Do For fun?

For fun I blog, I love to read other blogs and books of course. I adore shopping – even window shopping is fun. I also enjoy trying out new beauty products and doing girly things like painting my nails. I love watching TV series & movies with my boyfriend on the weekend. I also enjoy having dress-up parties with my sisters and friends.

My hobbies are blogging, making jewellery, scrapbooking, reading and making craft-type things. I’ve always been pretty creative and I’m also a really fast learner – which enables me to do things even if I don’t know how.

interviews2

Do you consider yourself to be successful?

I am successful at most of the things I set out to do. It might not be financial success but if I start something I always finish it – even if it takes a while. I feel that personal sense of success, even if I’m not receiving praise elsewhere.

What has been your greatest challenge thus far in your life?

My greatest challenge has probably been not having my driver’s license. I’m 29 this year and I don’t drive. I know this isn’t exactly a hardship and I can count myself lucky that I haven’t experienced any major challenges. I’m working on the driving thing and this year I will turn it into a success.

I think my family, my position in the family – the baby of 3 girls has definitely moulded me somewhat. I know most people believe the youngest child always gets their way, but I feel like my parents were stricter with me because they had already dealt with two other girls. Also some of my past relationships have changed me and shaped me into who I am.

If you could do something different with your life what would it be?

I would have tried to not be so shy growing up. It was a problem in high school, but I did eventually overcome it. I also wish I could have dealt with my fears earlier on so I wouldn’t be dealing with them now.

As I mentioned before, I would love to be in New York City. But if I have to choose somewhere locally, Cape Town would be my next choice. I’ve always wanted to live by the ocean but other than geographically I don’t think I would change all that much. I’m very happy and very blessed.

Thanks Chicara for sharing your life with us, we definitely share similar passions! I too love all that is beautiful, Make-up, fashion and most of all being creative! We hope to see you down in Cape Town in the future!

Real Women – Real Life….

by Fiona Rossiter on February 23, 2012

kathryn-profile

Today we get to look inside the life of Kathryn Rossiter; Kathryn is the creator of the blog Becoming you.

Tell Us About Yourself:

I am from Cape Town, South Africa – the top tourism destination in the world!

I live in an area known as the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. It is a beautiful area surrounded by mountains, forests, nature reserves and beaches! It really is a paradise to raise small children and I have to pinch myself that we are so blessed to live in a place so many people pay a small fortune to visit on holiday. We enjoy a wonderful outdoor lifestyle with great weather (besides the wind!) I love living in Cape Town as I am very fortunate to have grown up here and all my close family live within 10 minutes drive!

I am passionate about my children, family, friends, chocolate, magazines, books, photography, blogging….

My Dream – To be a success at raising my children while not losing sight of who I am or how important my marriage is! To travel the world would be pretty nice too!

What Motivates & Inspires You?

Hard to know really but I do want to end my life knowing I was really great at something. The admiration of my children and family as well as an inner drive to succeed at all I do also spurs me onwards….

God, the ultimate creator, is a pretty awesome source of inspiration don’t you think??? Just look at nature and how perfect and scientific and beautiful it all is. I mean babies – come on they are the ultimate creation, totally amazing!

What Are Your Strengths & Weaknesses?

Strengths: The willpower to avoid chips and fizzy drinks Weaknesses: The lack of willpower to avoid chocolate and cake…. Seriously my greatest strength is my organizational skills; my greatest weakness has to be patience as a mom or on the road ;)

kath-travel

What Do You Treasure Most In Life?

My husband is a gem, memories, happy times with family, good friendships, holidays, photographs, sentimental jewellery like my engagement ring, and the security of my home!

What Are Your Fears?

Like most, the fear that keeps me awake at night is probably that health problems would befall me or my family, security is a big concern in SA and the future well-being of my kids is pretty scary too. But perfect love casts out fear and I’m pretty well covered by someone much larger than me who is looking out for all these concerns!

What Keeps You Busy?

I have always wanted to work in publishing from the age of 14, when I would spend all my pocket-money on magazines and then pour over them for hours in my room on my own! I still would love to do this but for now I have 3 jobs – the paying one is as a Media Liaison where I write documents, guides, newsletters, website content and do social media 1 day per week. The unpaying one is my blog – Becoming you – which is something I hope will grow into a paying job soon! It is my current baby and I love it. My unpaying, full-time, no overtime, intensively emotionally draining job is being a mom to 2 employers! ;)

What Do You Do For fun?

Have I said blog? Yes that is pretty time intensive at present. Also seeing friends, walks in nature, eating out when the budget allows, outings with my family, painting, and entertaining but not cooking, visiting the beach, reading, watching movies, camping holidays or weekends away.

I try to find time for blogging, photography, gardening, Beth Moore bible study, painting, some baking and sewing crafts or things for my kids occasionally (when patience allows)

kath-camping

What are your successes or failures?

My greatest successes are the 2 little people I birthed; my greatest failure is not always seeing what value lies in raising 2 little people to become successful big people!

What has been your greatest challenge thus far in your life?

As a child and teen my family went through a few rough years in terms of health, finances, job security, moving city, changing school and subsequent friend issues. It was a very hard time for me and not one I wish to repeat but I definitely think that what they say about difficulties making you who you are is true in this case. I learnt a lot during that time and I am better for it now. Another difficult period in my life was when I was newly married and living in a foreign country for 2 years with my husband. The experience was full of very high highs and low lows but we definitely learnt to rely heavily on God and each other during this time!!

If you could do something different with your life what would it be?

Occasionally I do regret that I didn’t go to university after school – not due to grades but rather finances…. I don’t think I am worse off today because of it but I would like to prove myself, mostly to me but to others too! I’m not sure if I’m committed enough to study part-time though, not yet anyway. If I could change something in my life right now it would be to have more travel experiences… I would love to see somewhere new or go on an adventure once a year.

Thanks Kathryn for sharing your life with us, we wish you every success and we hope that one day you will realise your dream of a life in journalism!
