The Rain Book of Natural Soap Making

Rain-Book-of-Natural-Soap-Making

I recently attended the launch of The Rain Book of Natural Soap Making, at Casa Labia, in Muizenberg. I love Rain products, so I was naturally curious, to find out more about the process of natural soap making!

Rain-Natural-Soap-Making

We were first given the opportunity to mingle and meet the other media representatives attending and a chance to soak up the splendor that is Casa Labia!

Rain Book Launch at Casa Labia Rain-at-Casa-Labia3After enjoying some social time, we were then treated to a demonstration of how to make natural soap from scratch by Bev Missing, who is the author of The Rain Book of Natural Soap Making, as well as the brains behind Rain Africa.

I have used the melt and pour method in the past, to make soap for my girls school market day but the “proper” method is far more involved! Below you can see exactly what goes into making natural soap:

Rain Natural Soap Making

As it took Bev the better part of two years to perfect the art of natural soap making, I think that this craft is definitely not for the impatient person! From the detailed list of equipment you will require, most of which you probably have in your kitchen, to the to the raw materials needed, it is definitely something you need to be passionate about!

Rain Africa have also created a YouTube channel, where you can find step by step tutorials on natural soap making.

Melrose & Co

M&Co-Heart-Card2

I can spend hours buying gifts for friends and loved ones but I do believe, that you need to spend time on the packaging, as well as the gift selection! I probably spend as much time buying gift bags, wrapping and cards, as I spend on the actual gift buying.

I was delighted when Wilna, from Melrose & Co contacted me and asked whether she could send me a few of her gorgeous cards and gift tags!

M&Co Heart Tags Collage

Wilna’s creativity and love of pretty paper is very evident in her gorgeous creations. She started out making cards for friends and family, who eventually encouraged her to sell her cards. She uses plain and patterned paper to create her cards and may even up-cycle, bits of magazine pages, for a vintage feel.

M&Co-Butterfly-Tag2

There is something for everyone in the Melrose & Co. card selection and Wilna has also created a very cute, Safari and Farm range, of children’s cards and gift tags.

Naturals Beauty Teen Range

Naturals-Beauty-Teen-Range8

I have blogged about the amazing Naturals Beauty range before and today I am sharing a review on their Teen Range. Many of you may not have teens yet but my eldest daughter is 12 years old and although not technically a “teenager” very much in need of good skin care! I have encouraged both my girls, from a young age, to look after their skin – it is after all the only one we have!

Naturals-Beauty-Teen-Range10

Puberty can play havoc with your skin and following a proper, daily skin care routine is vital, to keep those nasty spots a bay. We recently received this wonderful range of products, from the Naturals Beauty Teen Range, for my daughter to try out and here are her thoughts:

Naturals-Beauty-Teen-Range6

  • Teen Face Wash with Blue Mountain Sage + Buchu

“I found this cleanser very gentle on my skin, which is good because I have very sensitive skin! I used it twice a day, once in the morning and again in the evening to wash my face. I really liked using it as my skin felt clean but not dry.”

The antibacterial & anti-inflammatory properties in the essential oils of Blue Mountain Sage, Buchu, Cinnamon and Tea Tree, gently deep cleanse the skin, removing the bacteria that cause acne and spots. Blue Mountain Sage contains bisabolol which will help reduce redness.

  • Teen Facial Moisturiser with Blue Mountain Sage + Buchu

“This moisturiser is great and did not leave my skin feeling greasy. My skin tends to be quite dry but does get very oily after a long day at school, especially if I am playing sport, so this definitely worked for me. I also used the moisturiser twice a day after cleansing my face.”

The Teen Facial Moisturiser contains essential oils, with antibacterial properties to help absorb excess oil and to help eliminate the acne causing bacteria. Vitamins A, E and B, found in avocado oil, will help nourish, heal and protect the skin, without making the face look or feel shiny or oily. Blue Mountain Sage contains bisabolol which will help reduce redness. Rooibos extract will soothe irritated skin.

  • Teen Spot Treatment with Blue Mountain Sage + Buchu

“The Spot Treatment is amazing and works very quickly. What I liked about it, is that it is very gentle on your skin, other spot treatments can dry your skin out but this does not! All you need to do is put a tiny amount on the spot after you have washed you face and it works like magic, taking away any redness from the spot. The only problem I have is my mom likes it too so she is always taking it and using it herself! :)”

A gentle treatment with natural ingredients to eliminate and treat acne spots. Use as often as required. Antibacterial & anti-inflammatory properties in the essential oils of Blue Mountain Sage, Buchu, Cinnamon and Tea Tree, will help to remove the bacteria that cause acne and spots. Blue Mountain Sage contains bisabolol which will help reduce redness.
