My Top SA Fashion Stores

keep-calm-and-go-shopping3

I am definitely what is more commonly known as a Shopaholic! I love fashion and enjoy keeping up to date with the latest fashion and style trends, not to say that I only shop the seasons trends but I do think that it is fun, to have a few fashion items in your wardrobe!

I have been blessed with two mini fahionistas as well, so needless to say shopping is a big part of what we do. This is a list of My Top SA Fashion Stores, for adult and tween fashion.

Fashion Cotton On Lace dress

Cotton On – This is probably more a favourite of my eldest daughter as their clothing does tend to be aimed at the 15+ age group.  I have on occasion managed to find a few items there for myself but their trousers tend to be quite a narrow fit, not good if you have “womanly” curves! Cotton On also has great accessories, at very reasonable prices. The only negative is they do not cater for the in between ages, their kiddies range stops at age 8, so my 9-year-old cannot shop there. Cotton On also have a great men’s wear range!

Cotton-On-Denim-Shirt

Mr Price – Mr P is a great place to find awesome fashion items, at prices that will not break the bank! It is perfect for fashionable clothing that you can wear for one season and not feel too guilty getting rid of, if it is not trendy next season. I must admit I find their children’s range a bit bleak, I do however love the fact that my eldest daughter can quite happily shop from their adult range, as their items are young and fresh and not OTT.

Woolworths –  Woolworths is probably the store I frequent the most, especially for items for myself. They have great classic items and although they keep up with the fashion trends, their clothing is still great quality. Woolworths also caters for a great variety of shoppers with the various clothing ranges they stock such as Studio.W, Trennery and Country Road.

Zara-Lace-Top

Zara  - I have been shopping at Zara long before they landed on SA shores and have always loved the brand. I was thrilled when they decided to open a branch at the V&A Waterfront! Although a bit more expensive than the other stores I have mentioned, you can find great quality fashion items as well as great classic pieces. There international sizing can be a bit confusing initially but once you get the hang of it there is no going back!

I will do a similar post in this series, in the future focusing on Kiddies Fashion Stores, so keep a look out for that! For more posts in My Top 4 Series click here

Cotton On Super Store Canal Walk

by Fiona Rossiter on November 14, 2012

Last week I was invited to attend the opening of Cotton On, Super Store, in canal Walk, Cape Town. As you could probably guess I would never turn down an opportunity to shop and I was rather curious as to what this new store has to offer the Capetonian consumer!

The Australian brand is well-known for effortless style at affordable prices. I must confess I did find the prices quite reasonable, I would have to say probably less than half what you would pay for a similar item at the likes of high-street store like Zara. The store is huge and the staff were helpful and friendly.

The Cotton On Super Store is the second of its kind in SA and it houses all their popular brands: Mens, Ladies, Cotton On Body and Cotton On Kids. Plus a small section of Typo goodies. The opening of the Super Store is perfectly timed, with Christmas on our door step and summer officially here!

Their ladies wear ranges from casual everyday T-shirts, shorts and dresses to something a bit smarter for work or an evening out. I definitely prefer their more casual range, I loved their summery boob-tube dresses and their casual jackets. I really liked the prints on their T’s but I found the fit really odd – a bit too big across the chest area!

Their mens T-shirts are great and really reasonably priced. They are made from beautifully soft cotton, with trendy prints and awesome colours for summer. I bought MR two and he absolutely loves them :)

The swim wear range was rather popular with all the shoppers there, I must admit I am not ready to start the swim wear search but when I am I will definitely head back to Cotton On to have a look. I also loved their Body range, which features really pretty underwear and gorgeous sleep wear.

Cotton On Kids is very cute and they have super trendy goodies for the little-ones, the only negative is that the kids range only caters up to the age of 7 so if you have older sprouts you are out of luck!

I would definitely recommend a visit to the Cotton On Super Store but I would advise you make it soon before the seasons mayhem really starts. Thanks to Cotton On for the preview and our goodie bag :)

PS. I will share my purchase from Cotton On in a separate post!

Cotton On Super Store Canal Walk is located on the Lower Level Shop 85LL, Contact Tel:(021) 552 0726, Opening Times are 9am to 9pm.

    Trunk Show Launch Party

by Fiona Rossiter on October 25, 2012

Last week I was invited to the Trunk Show Launch Party at the Tjing Tjing bar, in Cape Town. Trunk Show is not just another market it is a celebration of some of the finest local design talent in South Africa and a wonderful day out, filled with beautifully & locally made bespoke products! Do some gift shopping in the comfort of a luxury venue around the Western Cape, while sipping on some champagne and nibbling on cupcakes. It is shopping without the bustle and chaos of a mall or market and the perfect excuse for a girls or moms day out or for that anniversary gift that he’s been promising you ;)

At the party I got to meet the two lovely ladies who are responsible for organising the Trunk Show every month – Francoise Brand, from Hello Nunu and Catherine Nebe, from Mr & Ms. It truly was a coming together of amazing talent, in a wonderful venue in the center of Cape Town and bubbly to sip on while you browse, what more could you ask for.

Mr and Ms is a gorgeous locally made fashion range, which is all about individual expression. The brand is not primarily about chasing current trends, but rather about taking inspiration from beautifully designed clothing from the past and applying that inspiration to today’s context.

Hello Nunu for my regular readers needs no introduction! They create handmade, knitted and crochet clothing and blankets. Products also include hand knitted bed throws, linen and bedroom accessories. Such cute items for the little ones!

I love hats so you can imagine my excitement chatting to the wonderfully talented designers from The Little Hattery! They are a Cape Town based styling company that specialises in creating exquisite head-wear, accessories and custom clothing. I absolutely LOVE their hats and the waistcoats are stunning too, they are like something from another era! So if you are looking for a gorgeous headpiece for a special occasion or just to be noticed they are the ones to call!

Quiver offers handmade items, such as fabric covered rings and earrings. The fabric is sourced for its quality and design and used to accentuate these elements, to ultimately create a unique piece of jewellery. One could say that it is a method of up-cycling  fabric off cuts and giving it a whole new purpose!

CosyKids sell a handmade range of bespoke linen and accessories, perfect to decorate your babies nursery or child’s bedroom. I love the little sheep – too cute for words :)

The designers from Anomali are truly amazing! You really must check out their website, to see more detail, my photo’s do not do justice. They have taken the boring out of jewellery design! I quote “Besides our highest regard for craftsmanship and originality, we believe jewellery is not really meant to be taken seriously, and we think that people forget this. To us, it has come to function as a type of grown-up toy and we always try to treat it as such. Instead of trying to create ‘status’  jewellery, we rather focus on pieces that will come to have value as time passes, when a person has spent time with it and have come to attach their own personal meaning.” Making jewellery pieces out of vintage spoons is certainly not something I would have thought of.

Last but not least was Luli pulani, who design and manufacture footwear and also offer footwear courses and workshops. Some of the shoes on display reminded me of satin geisha slippers and they look amazingly comfortable as well.
