Almost two years ago we visited the Lanzerac Hotel and Spa for a memorable overnight romantic getaway. Sadly, last year, a devastating fire destroyed integral parts of the hotel, which made significant restoration necessary. A feature I wrote on the Top 10 Hotels in South Africa, was very well received, which gave me the idea of creating something similar for the individual cities in SA. I am starting with the Top 10 Hotels in Cape Town, which includes Southern Suburbs and Atlantic Seaboard.
The Alphen Boutique Hotel in Constantia has been on my “staycation” bucket list for quite a while. I think the main draw for me is the old world, glamorous style of the hotel. A recent trip found Grant and I in the heart of the winelands, at the Oude Werf Hotel in Stellenbosch. The university town of Stellenbosch, is surrounded by the picturesque vineyards of the Cape Winelands and the mountainous nature reserves of Jonkershoek and Simonsberg. Oak-lined streets and Cape Dutch architecture, give you a true sense of South Africa’s Dutch colonial history. [Read more…]
