Sunglasses Trends for 2012

sunglasses-1

Sunglasses trends for 2012 are largely based on trends from 2011, also influenced by the trends followed by celebrities and designers.

“Oversized” or “statement” sunglasses are still on trend from 2011, with retro styling typical of styles seen in the 1970’s. Currently it is a very popular style favoured by celebrities, providing that movie star glam appeal made popular by starlets like Audrey Hepburn.

Vintage or vintage styled sunglasses are also very popular, as with clothing the trend to collect vintage pieces – which has become rather fashionable, so too is collecting retro sunglasses from yester-year. If you cannot source actual vintage glasses, then popular sunglass brands are also producing vintage-styled sunglasses.

Sunglasses colour trends for 2012 are varied, with popular neutral shades like black and beige always in style but “colour” is definitely in fashion. From more subtle shades of burgundy’s, purples and orange, moving on to neon colours, which are extremely popular across the fashion spectrum.

Although sunglasses are very much more of a fashion statement than a mere necessity any longer, I do feel it is important to buy good quality glasses and if you can get polarised lenses then even better, as these offer better protection for your eyes from harsh sunlight.

Something else to keep in mind when shopping for a new pair of shades is your colour skin-tone and the shape of your face, you still want the sunglasses to suit you even if you are buying a trendy item.

What brand or style of sunglasses are you wearing this season?
