The Ultimate Glade Sensory Experience

Glade recently launched a multi-sensory campaign, to explore the powerful connection between scent and emotion. I am sure you have experienced the feeling of nostalgia, when you walk into a room and catch a hint of a familiar scent. That amazing feeling of being transported to another place.

As part of the campaign, Glade asked me to share my own sensory experiences, in relation to a few Glade products.

Glade Sensory Experience

One quickly realises that the connection between smell and emotion is a very real thing! I encountered this when selling our first home and realising the positive impact that “homely” scents have on potential buyers. I found this rather intriguing and after doing a bit of research it became very apparent that our emotions are largely influenced by the smells we experience. A large part of homemaking is creating the perfect space, which is not only through what you can see and touch but also through what you can smell.

Glade

Our sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more so than other senses. Smell can often trigger a memory of a long-forgotten event or take you back to your childhood. Not only is smell linked closely with memory but so too with emotion. As well as awakening your senses, smell can also govern your emotional responses.

One of my special places to visit is the seaside – the scent of salty sea air, the gentle breaking of the waves, wind in your hair and a feeling of complete relaxation. Not much can beat an Ocean Escape! Long walks on the beach and taking time out just for me, is the best! Sometimes I feel the longing to be back there but often this is not possible. So the next best thing is to try and recreate the experience in your own space. A quick spritz of Glade Ocean Escape Spray and you are transported back to the ocean, recreating the scents of nature and a feeling of relaxation in your home.

Glade Clean Linen

Another smell which I have realised is a strong emotional trigger for me, is Clean Linen! Climbing into a freshly made bed at night, is one of the best feelings! The inviting fresh smell of clean linen is something truly special. A trick I have learnt as an avid homemaker, is to use a spray such as Glade Clean Linen, to help recreate this fresh scent in the rest of your home. You will be amazed at how much more receptive and positive people are, in an environment which smells good!

It was fun and interesting to explore exactly how powerful the Olfactory system is and how much it influences our perceptions! I have shared a few of my ultimate sensory experiences but I would love to hear from you and find out what your most powerful connection between smell and emotion is.
