From the moment you enter the property, La Residence sets out to wow you and delight all your senses.  The rather grand scale of everything is quite remarkable. From high vaulted ceilings, original artworks, elegant antiques, an abundance of fresh flowers and stunning chandeliers, you cannot help but feel you have stepped into a palatial setting. Furnishings are an eclectic mix of styles, sourced and collected by Liz Biden on her many travels around the world. The end result is a space which whispers tales of distant lands, while at the same time oozing both style and sophistication.

Stay

Guests can choose from Luxury Rooms, Superior Rooms or Vineyard Suites. In total, the hotel can sleep 38 adults and four children, in 11 Hotels Suite and 5 Vineyard Suites. The suites are beautifully decorated, each with its unique colour scheme and decor style. One would imagine that such opulence would feel cold and austere, but I found it to be the complete opposite. Bright colours, rich textures and beautiful fresh flowers give the rooms a pleasantly warm, and inviting feel.

As if over-the-top luxury were not enough, the picture perfect views from every angle of the property are next level. Each room has a private balcony or veranda, each with its unique view. Lush gardens, stately mountains and the sweeping vistas across the vineyards, as far a the eye can see.

Eat

Dining at La Residence is nothing short of a lavish affair. The chefs at La Residence are of the highest calibre, and their top priority is to ensure a culinary experience to remember! If you have specific dietary requirements, menus can be specially tailored to meet your every need. As far as the menu goes, the emphasis is on fresh local ingredients, many of which are grown on the farm. Fine dining would not be complete without a selection of equally fine wines. If you are unsure about what to order, a wine steward is on hand to guide your choice.

If it is something a little extraordinary you are after, the High Tea at La Residence Franschhoek is something I highly recommend! Not only is high tea a decadent feast, but it is also the perfect excuse for a day out in the Winelands with your girlfriends!

Play

Franschhoek is a great area to explore and offers visitors many wonderful adventures. However, if you are a guest at La Residence, you quite literally do not have to leave until you check out. Everything you may desire is right there on your doorstep. If you have the energy to expend then take a stroll through the vineyards or hop on one of the estate’s bicycles. You can also enjoy a spot of wine tasting on the farm. Not only does La Residence Estate produce their estate wines, but they have an extensive wine list showcasing some of South Africa’s finest wines.

La Residence is the perfect place to unwind. Spend your days poolside, soaking up the sun{weather permitting} or curled up with a good book, in front of a roaring fire. Better yet indulge yourself and book a pampering treatment at the estate’s Spa.
