Last year we spent two days and nights staying at Elgin Vintners Country House. The Country House, located on the Ridgelands farm, is in the picturesque Elgin Valley.
Englin Vintners Country House
The 4-star boutique guesthouse is the perfect spot for a relaxing country retreat. Initially built in 1927 to a Sir Herbert Baker design, the Country House has been restored to its Victorian glory, but not forgoing all the modern creature comforts.
Nestled between vineyard rows, and fruit orchards, Elgin Vintners Country House can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests, in luxurious suites. The accommodation is child-friendly and gives guests full use of the property, including the swimming pool, tennis court and braai area.
In tribute to the Elgin Orchards farm’s former owners, each room is named after a former Elgin Orchards owner. Syfret, Browne and Denniston suites each sleep 2 guests, while the Hahn family suite can accommodate 4 guests.
We were fortunate to stay in luxurious Syfret, Honeymoon Suite. The suite is wonderfully spacious with a glamorous ensuite bathroom and a view of the lush gardens.
Another fantastic treat, during our stay, was a delicious cheese platter and a bottle of estate’s elegant Belle Amie Merlot Blanc de Noir.
The room rate includes breakfast with coffee & tea, free WIFI and a complimentary wine tasting at the Tasting Room.

The magical vineyard location is the ideal place to celebrate your special day! Elgin Vintners Country House and the serene gardens provide the perfect setting for a magical fairytale wedding or function.
Moreover, accommodation in the charming country guesthouse is included in the event package.
Things To Do
Guests staying at Elgin Vintners Country House can also enjoy wine tasting, as well as food and wine pairing or light lunches at the newly built tasting room, which has beautiful views of the country landscape. Taste a selection of the estate’s wines, which perfectly express the essence of the cool climate and unique Elgin terroir.
Also highly recommend is a meander through the breathtaking English country gardens – it is the best remedy to combat stress!
Other than wine tasting there are a host of activities on offer in the Elgin. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the leisurely walks or scenic hikes in the. In particular, I can recommend the Green or Blue Mountain Trails, which are great for slackpacking.
There is also a fantastic array of farmstalls, markets and restaurants, in the area, including my favourite Peregrine, as well as Orchard Farm Stall and Houw Hoek.
In Closing
Elgin is fast becoming one of my favourite wine regions and Elgin Vintners is a must for a weekend getaway or a day trip for wine tasting at their new tasting room.
