How to Wear a Cardigan In Winter & Look Stylish

Something I love about Winter, besides red wine, is fashion! Winter is all about warmer knitwear, boots, coats and lots of layering. One of the top trends that I love this year is the cardigan. Cardigans are incredibly versatile, and there are so many fabulous styles available this season. So I thought I would share a few of my favourite looks.

Winter is certainly making itself felt in Cape Town, which means it is time for a wardrobe audit. I have a good selection of warmer jumpers, but I am definitely in need of a new cardigan or two. They are perfect for layering and can take an outfit from so-so to super stylish.

I generally enjoy a more casual everyday look, and because I am short, I tend to stick to slightly shorter styles in knitwear. That said, a longer length cardi can be fabulous over skinny jeans or a dress. When searching the interwebs, I came across several “cardigan looks” that I think would be perfect for Winter. In actual fact, Superbalist’s collection of cardigans for men, women and kids is fantastic.

Top Cardigan Looks For Winter

The Front or French Tuck

I really love this look, and I think it completely transforms the outfit, taking it from casual to chic and effortlessly stylish. I also think that adding a statement belt adds even more drama to the ensemble.

Cropped Cardigan with a skirt

Although I love a longer length cardigan with a skirt, I think that going cropped can look edgy and modern. I recommend doing up the buttons if you are wanting a figure forming look.

Longer Length, Slouchy Cardi with Jeans

This type of look is one of my go-to styles. It is casual and perfect for every day, and if you are looking for extra warmth, layer it with a turtleneck or poloneck sweater.

Shorter Belted Cardi

This is a definite must-add to any wardrobe, and I think it looks great with jeans but will work equally well with a long skirt or dress.

Longer Length Black Cardi

As far as winter staples go, a longer length black cardigan is ideal, and my favourite is an open or waterfall style. There are so many different ways to style this for winter, but a personal favourite is a black polo neck, jeans and black boots.

Longline Cardi With a Dress

Ordinarily, this is not a look I would go for, but I will step outside of my comfort zone and try it this season! I love this look with a flowy maxi dress and boots.

Longline Cable Knit Cardi

I think a longline chunky knit looks perfect with skinny jeans, but I would happily also wear it with leggings and boots.

Again, being short in stature, this is not usually a look I would choose, but I am willing to give it a try. My preference is a lighter weight knit, which is not too chunky. I also think the key is to keep your outfit simple, pairing it with leggings or skinny jeans and boots.

Beautiful and interesting suggestions! I like this long wool cardigan the most. It is very stylish and feminine. I would gladly wear it on many different occasions.
