Trunk Show Launch Party

Last week I was invited to the Trunk Show Launch Party at the Tjing Tjing bar, in Cape Town. Trunk Show is not just another market it is a celebration of some of the finest local design talent in South Africa and a wonderful day out, filled with beautifully & locally made bespoke products! Do some gift shopping in the comfort of a luxury venue around the Western Cape, while sipping on some champagne and nibbling on cupcakes. It is shopping without the bustle and chaos of a mall or market and the perfect excuse for a girls or moms day out or for that anniversary gift that he’s been promising you 😉

At the party I got to meet the two lovely ladies who are responsible for organising the Trunk Show every month – Francoise Brand, from Hello Nunu and Catherine Nebe, from Mr & Ms. It truly was a coming together of amazing talent, in a wonderful venue in the center of Cape Town and bubbly to sip on while you browse, what more could you ask for.

Mr and Ms is a gorgeous locally made fashion range, which is all about individual expression. The brand is not primarily about chasing current trends, but rather about taking inspiration from beautifully designed clothing from the past and applying that inspiration to today’s context.

Hello Nunu for my regular readers needs no introduction! They create handmade, knitted and crochet clothing and blankets. Products also include hand knitted bed throws, linen and bedroom accessories. Such cute items for the little ones!

I love hats so you can imagine my excitement chatting to the wonderfully talented designers from The Little Hattery! They are a Cape Town based styling company that specialises in creating exquisite head-wear, accessories and custom clothing. I absolutely LOVE their hats and the waistcoats are stunning too, they are like something from another era! So if you are looking for a gorgeous headpiece for a special occasion or just to be noticed they are the ones to call!

Quiver offers handmade items, such as fabric covered rings and earrings. The fabric is sourced for its quality and design and used to accentuate these elements, to ultimately create a unique piece of jewellery. One could say that it is a method of up-cycling  fabric off cuts and giving it a whole new purpose!

CosyKids sell a handmade range of bespoke linen and accessories, perfect to decorate your babies nursery or child’s bedroom. I love the little sheep – too cute for words 🙂

The designers from Anomali are truly amazing! You really must check out their website, to see more detail, my photo’s do not do justice. They have taken the boring out of jewellery design! I quote “Besides our highest regard for craftsmanship and originality, we believe jewellery is not really meant to be taken seriously, and we think that people forget this. To us, it has come to function as a type of grown-up toy and we always try to treat it as such. Instead of trying to create ‘status’  jewellery, we rather focus on pieces that will come to have value as time passes, when a person has spent time with it and have come to attach their own personal meaning.” Making jewellery pieces out of vintage spoons is certainly not something I would have thought of.

Last but not least was Luli pulani, who design and manufacture footwear and also offer footwear courses and workshops. Some of the shoes on display reminded me of satin geisha slippers and they look amazingly comfortable as well.

To find out when the next Trunk Show is happening, follow them on Facebook.

There will definitely be something for everyone from gorgeous sushi, flat-breads  burgers to decadent cheeses and breads, so come and sample the amazing food on offer – wash it all down with a craft beer or superb Constantia Valley wines. Even the kiddies will be catered for. You can finish of your meal with amazing artisanal Ice Cream and perfectly brewed coffee. It is all making my mouth water already!

Summer In the City

Summer in the City

Summer in the City

Last week I attended a blogger event,  “Summer In the City”, hosted by Stiletto J, aka Jeanne Cupido, from Stiletto Adventures. Unfortunately the weather was anything but summery but hey-ho, that did not stop me from donning a pair of super stylish heels and venturing off. The event was held at a rather popular Cape Town spot, called I Love My Laundry, which is a place I have wanted to visit for a while now. It is a laundry with a difference, they serve Dim Sum and coffee and also have weekly fondue evenings – as I said somewhat different and yes they also do laundry! 🙂

Summer in the City

We were all treated to infused Primitiv Vodka shots – my favourite was the Dandelion Infusion – it was super yummy! Gourmet muesli was also on offer, with refreshing mango puree, decadent dates and zingy ginger to wake up your taste buds.

The very pretty underwear on display is from La Ninna Nanna (Which is Italian for “lullaby”) and is available to purchase from I Love My Laundry.

I was pretty much in shoe heaven as there were works of shoe-art on display, courtesy of Europa Art Shoes. There were also amazing prizes on offer from the various sponsors, which included Essie, Incoco, Medi-heel, La Ninna Nanna, and Europa Art – I was lucky enough to win a voucher from the Europa Shoes – a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes!

Summer

After a bit of mingling, we were inspired by three amazing entrepreneurs who came to speak to us about their products. They were Diane from Bisousoleil, Keren from Bellabaci and Shantelle from Medi-heel, all great companies and more importantly Proudly South African! Each person  received a wonderful goodie bag with products from these three companies and yummy chocolate treats from CocoaFair!

All in all it was a great evening, a chance to meet fellow bloggers and put faces to a few Twitter handles. Thanks Jeanne for organising it and I Love My Laundry for hosting us!

Thank You Mom Campaign – Procter & Gamble

With just over 90 Days until the 2012 Olympic Games, Super Mom Blog would like to announce their support of the Procter & Gamble “Thank You Mom” Campaign! The campaign recognizes and celebrates the moms behind the athletes, by thanking moms for all they do! The campaign is also a part of P&G’s worldwide partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

P&G is not only a worldwide sponsor of the Olympic Games and a proud partner of Team South Africa, but they are also the Proud Sponsor of Moms.

“There is no way I, or any other athlete I know, would be where we are today without the support of our moms. I can never thank my mom enough for everything she did for me and that’s why I’m proud to be a part of this campaign that thanks moms everywhere.” ~  Khotso Mokoena,  Long Jump silver medallist,

P&G has committed to raise $5 million to support local youth sports programs in many countries, through a portion of sales and donations from the company’s leadership brands including Pampers®, Always®, Head & Shoulders®, Gillette® WELLA®, Vicks®, and Pantene®,

In South Africa, motherhood extends beyond one’s biological child to the extended family, children within the community and to those in need. Here it’s about Mama – that special female someone who shaped who you are today, regardless of how or when you stretched your arms out to her.

The aim of the campaign, is to salute, not just the Mamas of Olympians, but all Mamas who have given so much. The Mamas who have raised great athletes and those who have raised great kids, these are the women who dedicate their lives to supporting and serving everyone else! So now is the time to support and serve them.

Someone needs to say, “Thank you, Mama” so along with P&G, Super Mom Blog would like everyone in South Africa to do the same. We hope that you can play a key role in inspiring South Africa  to say “Thank You, Mama!”

P&G has also launched the “Thank You Mama app” that allows people to thank their own moms by uploading personalized content in the form of a video, still image with caption or text-based message. Users will then be able to encourage friends and family to do the same, spreading the word to thank and celebrate moms.
