Gourmet Boerie
Last week we attended the official launch of Gourmet Boerie, which I blogged about over here last month. With Mr en-tow we ventured out to the centre of town last Saturday evening, to check-out the newly opened restaurant. Gourmet Boerie is situated on the corner of Kloof Street in Cape Town, a wonderful vibey part of the Mother City. The vibe at the launch on Saturday evening was indeed tangible!
We were greated at the door with a drink of our choice – you guessed it, bubbles for me, who would ever refuse awesome Cape Bubbly! There were also craft beers on tap, a selection of wines, coolers and soft drinks so everyone was well catered for.
I really love the décor of the restaurant and much to our surprise, we found out that one of our neighbours was instrumental in the development of the space! The décor is modern with wonderful exposed brick work, clean lines, vibrant colours and a stunning bar area, perfect for stopping in for a beer and boerie on your way home in the evening.
The main dining space is casual with long tables and benches; there is an additional seating area outside with large folding doors to allow the restaurant to flow naturally to the outside area, which is great for alfresco summer dining.
I was not entirely to sure what to expect when sampling the “boerie rolls” but I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised. The bread rolls where light and airy and the boerie was perfectly cooked, with that “perfect bite” and certainly not tough or full of gristle. The flavour combinations where heavenly! My favourite was the “The Hangover”, topped with bacon, caramelised pineapple and avocado with cheese sauce followed closely by the “Shroom Sauce”, topped with a creamy mushroom sauce with fresh herbs and cos lettuce – seriously yummy!
Lucozade All Summer Energy Challenge
As you know coffee is an important part of my everyday existence! Well, I have been given a challenge, wait for it – to try to do with out my cuppa-jo for a week (sounds crazy, I know!) and replace it with Lucozade. Lucozade is a glucose rich energy drink, with a bit of added caffeine, which promises to give me all the vooma I need. I doubt whether this will be a long-term plan but in saying that, I can certainly do with more of an energy boost, especially in the afternoon.
Lucozade is also currently running a competition, where they would like you to capture that all summer energy moment – a moment filled with good times, great friends and that beaming summer smile of yours! All you need to do is send your #AllSummerEnergy pictures in, via twitter or MMS – holding your bottle of Lucozade. There is a daily prize of R3000, all summer long. There is also a grand prize up for grabs of a cool R150 000. To find out more and how to enter visit the Lucozade website and do not forget to hashtag your entry with #AllSummerEnergy brought to you by @LucozadeZA.
So watch this space – my Lucozade arrived today but I will start my challenge on Monday, it is the weekend after all! We will see if I manage the week without coffee (my poor family!) or if it all unravels at a rapid rate! 😉
*Disclaimer: I have been provided with Lucozade Energy Drinks for the purpose of the challenge but am in no way affiliated with Lucozade or the competition they are running.

Coffee in the City
As many of my readers already know coffee is somewhat of an obsession of mine. I will not drink coffee unless it’s the “real-deal”, I am not embarrassed to say I am a big coffee snob, instant coffee does not pass my lips – EVER! I would quite honestly rather drink Rooibos tea or water, than drink instant coffee. That said you can also get coffee served to you that is masquerading as espresso coffee, some watered down excuse for coffee. I guess like great wine; it is all about what goes into the product that determines the outcome, as well as who is making it! It is important to know where the source of the coffee beans, as well as how they are roasted and brewed. Hence my plan to source some of the best Coffee in the City. [Read more…]
