30 Day Photo Challenge, FAR Photography

Photo A Day Challenge May 2013

MAY-PHOTO-A-DAY_zps15a0483f

I have decided to take part in a Photo A Day Challenge for the month of May, shared by the lovely Chicara over at Lipgloss Kisses, one of my favourite beauty blogs! I did a 30 Day Photo Challenge quite some time ago on the blog and tried to do one again at the end of last year, which did not work out due to technical issues, so I am super excited about trying this one!

This particular challenge was set by Fat Mum Slim and sounds like great fun! If you want to join the challenge it is super easy, this is how:

  • Check out the May photo a day list above.
  •  Each day look at the daily prompt and take a photo according to whatever the prompt is. For example for day 1 the prompt is ‘I bought this!’, so share something you’ve bought. It might be something you purchased today, like a coffee etc or something you love that you picked up some time in the past. It’s a great opportunity to get creative. Be inspired by a little creativity and see what you come up with.
  •  Once you’ve taken the photo it’s time to share it. There are loads of places you can share it. See below for more details.
  • Check out other people’s photos. You can browse through them on Fat Mum Slims Facebook page, in the FMS Photo A Day Facebook group. Or on Instagram or Twitter just search for the #FMSphotoaday hashtag to see them all.

There are loads of places to be social and share your photos with the #FMSphotoaday community:

  • Instagram: Just upload your photo, use a fancy filter, add a caption and the hashtag #FMSphotoaday and then share.Facebook: There are a few options here. You can simply share on your own personal page, among your own friends. Or you can upload to FMS page’s wall, or you can join here: FMS Photo A Day Facebook group
  • Blog: If you have a blog, you could share each day or do a wrap up of all the photos at the end of the month.
  • Tumblr: Add your daily photos to your Tumblr feed.
  •  Flickr: You can get their app {for free if I remember correctly} and share your photos there, or upload on their web version. There is also a photo a day group on Flickr.
  • Twitter: You can share on Twitter by uploading the photo and sharing the hashtag #FMSphotoaday. Easy.

So let me know if you are joining in and we can check out each others progress! If you are on Instagram or Twitter please leave your deets in the comment section so that we can follow you!

Lifestyle, Social Media, Websites

Social Media

With an alarming frequency I am noticing that more and more people are using social media platforms, especially Twitter as a means of venting their personal frustrations or grievances. I am not talking about mentioning that you are having a bad hair day or a fashion meltdown, more the act of ripping someone to shreds on the world-wide web! In my opinion this is a rather dangerous practice because as with the spoken word once you have said it or in this case Tweeted it you cannot take it back.

Although social media has become a very powerful networking tool we do need to be responsible how we use it and what we put out there! Shall we call it – displaying a bit of social etiquette.

Please don’t get me wrong I am not claiming complete innocence in this matter and I am aware that there are other social networking practices that are as annoying but it has made me realise as with other things in life, there are social consequences.

As with other forms of negative speech I am setting out to banish it from my social networking practices. If it is neither constructive or helpful, in my opinion, it is not worthy of being written! I am aware that there will certainly be people who will disagree with me on this and probably tweet about but c’est la vie!

Happy Friday and Tweet on!

Super Mom Blog in the Media

This post which originated on the Fairlady.com site has since been removed by Fairlady, as Fairlady.com has now changed to The Daily Fix.

I thought I would share Super Mom Blog in the Media with you – my blog was mentioned along with a few other local mom’s as “mommy tweeters we love”, on Fairlady.com. It is always great to receive such positive feedback – thanks Fairlady!

Mommy tweeters we love

15 May 2012

If you’re looking for mom support or advice then these are the tweeters to follow.

If you’re not already following us on Twitter, it’s time to jump on the Twitter wave and find out what all the hype is about. It’s a wonderful place to find people and information. It’s especially handy when it comes to looking for like-minded people or people who are in a similar life phase to you.

As our May blogger of the month, Tanya Kovarsky worded it (page 71): ‘Twitter has offered me loads of support, even during 2am wake-ups, or toddler tantrums. I’ve made many real-life friends, and these women seem to know me and my day-to-day thoughts and activities better than most.’

Here are some great moms to start following:

Tanya Kovarsky

Bio: Writer, editor, trainer bloggerholic and social media slag. Imperfect mom of Max, Comrades runner. Devotee of Glee, Apples, Hello Kitty and Converse

FAIRLADY’s May blogger of the month, Tanya is the lady behind blogs Dear Max and Rattle & Mum (page 71). She offers a very realistic view of what takes to juggle parenthood, a career and having hobbies and personal interests.

You can follow Tanya by clicking here.

Tertia Albertyn

Bio: Mother, author, blogger and baby-maker. The Queen of Everything.

Tertia is possibly the most famous mom blogger in South Africa. Similar to her blog’s frank and tongue-in-cheek tone, Tertia’s twitter stream is a mine of giggles, witty remarks and interesting links.

Super Mom Blog

Aside from producing a great lifestyle blog that is so much more than just a mommy portal, Fiona is interesting to follow on twitter. You’ll find links for the mom on the go – wondering what make-up you should be buying, or perhaps you’re looking for style inspiration while pregnant – you’ll get this by clicking here to follow SuperMomBlog.

Sam Cowen

 Bio: 38 – 2kids, 1husband, loads of animals, breakfast xpress 94.7

Sam already has quite a following thanks to her radio presence although we think it’s for her dry sense of humour and sharp comments. Her twitter stream is filled with witty remarks and we challenge you to follow Sam without chuckling.

From her parenthood experiences:

To her exercise regimes:

We know you’ll love following her.

Cupcake Mummy

Bio: purple hair – rockin single mum to a boy toddler – tattooed – slightly psychotic – cupcake obsessed – book whore – tea lover – brutally honest – puddle jumping camera slave

Take a journey through parenthood with this passionate photographer and mom. Her blog details how she manages her Asperger Syndrome, her day-to-day dealings with her son, ‘Fish’ and showcases her photos. Her twitter stream is your connection to this fun mom.

Tamaryn Watkins

Bio: Maker of bodythrills, full-time fiancée, sometimes writer, accidental mother to blue-eyed boymischief. Kitchen ninja, vintage crockery fetishist.
