Your Ultimate Guide To Exploring Cape Town with Discover Cars

Cape Town, otherwise fondly known as the Mother City, boasts some of the most picturesque views in the world, a rich heritage, and a fantastic food and wine scene – making it a global destination of choice. To further validate this, Cape Town was named Time Out’s Best City in the World for 2025.

Cape Town

Exploring Cape Town

Whether you are a local or a tourist discovering this stunning destination for the first time, spending a week or more is a must. Booking a rental car and exploring Cape Town’s top attractions at your own pace is highly recommended, something made super easy with Discover Cars.

Discover Cars

Discover Cars provides car rentals in many locations globally, working with renowned international and trusted local companies. Their main aim is to be the world’s most reliable car rental platform by creating a seamless vehicle rental experience and making the booking process clear, effortless, and enjoyable. They offer access to a variety of different cars, made possible by partnering with 500 rental agencies across more than 10,000 destinations around the world.

Must-Visit Cape Town Attractions

Planning your Cape Town itinerary can be daunting because there is so much to see and do, but these are some of my Must-Visit Cape Town Attractions to assist you on your journey.

Table Mountain

Table Mountain

No trip to Cape Town is complete without a visit to Table Mountain, one of the 7 Wonders of Nature. Adventure seekers can climb the mountain or, better yet, enjoy the panorama from the comfort of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. Either way, be sure to pick a clear, wind-free day.

Cape Point

Cape Point

Cape Point, which falls within the southern section of Table Mountain National Park, is a breathtaking nature reserve offering spectacular views of the Cape Peninsula. Walk to the lighthouse, and you’ll be rewarded with sights that linger in your memory long after your visit. For those who prefer something less strenuous, hop on the Flying Dutchman funicular to get to the Cape Point lighthouse effortlessly. After taking in the magical view, visitors can enjoy a delicious meal at the Two Oceans Restaurant or grab a quick bite at The Food Shop.

Kirstenbosch Garden

Kirstenbosch Gardens

Just a short drive from the city centre, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is an oasis of tranquillity. Cape Town’s acclaimed National Botanical Garden is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. Take time to wander around and discover the extensive flora on display, soaking up nature or enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants on site. The Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway, affectionately called ‘The Boomslang’, should not be missed – the views from the top are one of the gardens’ highlights!

Boulders Beach

Boulders Beach

Drive to Simonstown and spend a day at Boulders Beach, which is famous for its resident African Penguin colony. The pristine beach, with soft white sand, has made this a popular Mother City attraction. It is a wonderful, family-friendly outing. With its calm water, Boulders is perfect for families with young children, exploring rock pools and watching the adorable penguins in their natural habitat.

The Beautiful Cape Winelands

Cape Winelands

Exploring the Cape Winelands will definitely require more than one day! Wine lovers and foodies alike are spoilt for choice when it comes to Wine Estates in the Cape! Start your journey in the Constantia Valley and wind your way to Franschhoek. There are many different and unique wine-tasting experiences, as well as delicious food to savour, while enjoying the stunning landscapes. Please remember to be responsible and choose a designated driver if you are doing a self-drive.

Discover Local Flavours at the V&A Waterfront and OZCF Market

V&A Waterfront

The vibrant V&A Waterfront is definitely a must when visiting Cape Town. You will find a great variety of shops and restaurants, as well as fun entertainment such as the Aquarium. One of my favourite restaurants at the V&A is Willoughbys; with a full Japanese kitchen, they offer the most delicious dishes, including the freshest sushi, tempura dishes, salads and soups, not to forget a selection of seafood and meat options.

I also highly recommend popping in at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market, where local farmers and artisans showcase the most fantastic local produce.

Cape Town’s Spectacular Beaches

Long Beach Noordhoek

Again, visitors are spoilt for choice with so many beautiful beaches to choose from. Be sure not to miss out on the stunning shoreline along the Atlantic Seaboard. From Clifton to Camps Bay, you can choose from a more secluded experience, such as Beta Beach at Bakoven, which is perfect for a peaceful outing, or a more vibey experience at Clifton or Camps Bay Beach. Venturing further along the coast, Long Beach in Noordhoek is ideal for long, scenic walks.

Chapmans Peak Scenic Drive

Chapmans Peak Drive

The drive to reach Long Beach in Noordhoek takes you along one of the most stunning scenic drives over Chapmans Peak. Chapmans Peak Drive follows the contour of the mountain, winding along from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. Tourists and locals often stop at viewpoints along this route to take in majestic vistas of Hout Bay, Sentinel Peak, the surrounding landscapes, and breathtaking views of Noordhoek Beach.

Explore Cape Town with Discover Cars

Booking a rental car through the convenient Discover Cars platform affords you not only the freedom of creating your own itinerary but also the ability to explore the magic of Cape Town at your own pace. Visiting these attractions will offer you a unique glimpse into what makes the Cape so special. Most of all, you are assured of a trip filled with unforgettable memories.
