Discovering Cape Town – Cape Point Meander

What a beautiful weekend we just experienced in the Cape – the weather was truly glorious and it called for a much needed outdoor adventure! So on Sunday morning we packed the bikes and a picnic lunch and headed off to Cape Point. Cape Point as I mentioned before is one of the many attractions you can enjoy when visiting Cape Town.

Cape Point

Cape Point Meander

Named the ‘Cape of Storms’ by Bartolomeu Dias in 1488; the ‘Point’ was treated with respect by sailors for centuries. By day, it was a navigational landmark and by night, and in fog, it was a menace beset by violent storms and dangerous rocks that over the centuries littered shipwrecks around the coastline.

Once we got there the girls and the Dads set off on a bike ride and the mums took a leisurely drive to the “Thomas Tucker Shipwreck Trail”. We spent some time soaking up, the peace and tranquility of the beautiful setting, while waiting for the troops to return – from their bike ride.

After their 10 kilometre bike ride, we all set off on a meander along the beach trail. We had the pleasure of viewing a mother Seal basking in the sun, what a life! We also caught a glimpse of her pup frolicking in the waves – what a joy to see!

We also managed to see an array of bright spring flowers, a rather interesting looking Lizard, Bontebok, Ostriches and a troop of Baboons, what a privilege to see all these animals and striking vegetation, right on our own doorstep! After our walk we enjoyed a much needed picnic lunch and cold refreshments. What a glorious day out!

Entrance Fees: Children (age 6-16) and pensioners: R24 (return) | R18 (single), Adult: R58 (return) / R48 (single)

Be Calm

Sometimes God lets the storms rage around you and allows you to get a bit battered and bruised, He is only strengthening you and preparing you for the great things that He has in store for you. So be calm and know that He is always there no matter the situation and He will bring you through.

Have a great Friday and an awesome weekend!

What Makes Me Proudly South African?

South African Flag

We will be celebrating Heritage Day, in South Africa, this Saturday 24th September. Being a Capetonian and most certainly – Proudly South African, there is so much to celebrate! We are a nation made up of diverse cultures, with a rather complicated history but we are a fiercely proud “people”. [Read more…]

4 Things..., Cape Town, Lifestyle, Proudly South African

4 Things You Must Do When You Visit Cape Town:

Franschhoek

Table Mountain

Top Things to do in Cape Town

  •  First and foremost you have to take a trip up Table Mountain, it is the most spectacularly beautiful view you will probably see in the city. Those looking  for adventure can climb it but those less inclined can enjoy the splendour from the comfort of the Cableway. Either way be sure and pick a clear, non-windy day.

  • Cape Point is another one of  our many amazing attractions,  the views are out of this world and if you walk up to the top viewing point you can see almost the entire Western Cape. For those who are not as energetic (yes ok – lazy) there is a tram service, the “Flying Dutchman Funicular”, which you can take up to the Cape Point light house.

  •  A visit to Kirstenbosch gardens is also a must, exploring our acclaimed National Botanical Gardens is a delightful way to spend a sunny afternoon. You can just wonder around the gardens and soak up nature or you can enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants in the gardens.

Franschhoek Cape Town

  •  Last but certainly not least is a visit to the Cape Winelands, you can start in the Constantia Valley and travel as far as Paarl and Robertson but my favourite, as I have mentioned before, is definitely Franschhoek. You can venture out on your own or join one of the many wine tours on offer.

No matter what you choose to do, you will definitely have fun exploring our amazing city – The Mother City, Cape Town!
