Discovering Cape Town – Cape Point Meander

What a beautiful weekend we just experienced in the Cape – the weather was truly glorious and it called for a much needed outdoor adventure! So on Sunday morning we packed the bikes and a picnic lunch and headed off to Cape Point. Cape Point as I mentioned before is one of the many attractions you can enjoy when visiting Cape Town.

Cape Point

Cape Point Meander

Named the ‘Cape of Storms’ by Bartolomeu Dias in 1488; the ‘Point’ was treated with respect by sailors for centuries. By day, it was a navigational landmark and by night, and in fog, it was a menace beset by violent storms and dangerous rocks that over the centuries littered shipwrecks around the coastline.

Cape Point

Once we got there the girls and the Dads set off on a bike ride and the mums took a leisurely drive to the “Thomas Tucker Shipwreck Trail”. We spent some time soaking up, the peace and tranquility of the beautiful setting, while waiting for the troops to return – from their bike ride.

After their 10 kilometre bike ride, we all set off on a meander along the beach trail. We had the pleasure of viewing a mother Seal basking in the sun, what a life! We also caught a glimpse of her pup frolicking in the waves – what a joy to see!

We also managed to see an array of bright spring flowers, a rather interesting looking Lizard, Bontebok, Ostriches and a troop of Baboons, what a privilege to see all these animals and striking vegetation, right on our own doorstep! After our walk we enjoyed a much needed picnic lunch and cold refreshments. What a glorious day out!

Entrance Fees: Children (age 6-16) and pensioners: R24 (return) | R18 (single), Adult: R58 (return) / R48 (single)

My Spaces – Cape Town Beauty

South Africa

Cape Town Beauty

I am fortunate to be able to say, that I live in one of the most beautiful cites in the world – Cape Town. I am reminded of this daily, as I drive over the mountain to fetch my girls from school; the spectacular views make the otherwise mindless commute worthwhile. These are a few of the images that I captured recently, using my iPhone – no I was not driving at the time! I loved the weird but wonderful cloud formations in some of the photos. They showcase the amazing beauty, that is the “Mother City”.

Art – Janet Hill Paintings

“Art is Man’s nature.  Nature is God’s art.”  ~James Bailey

As most of you may already know, I love anything creative and art is one of my first loves; coming from a rather arty family it has always been a part of my life. When browsing around recently, I came across this truly inspiring artist, Janet Hill, her paintings capture all the things that I love.

Janet Hill

Janet lives in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. She first discovered her passion for painting, as a teenager and went on to earn a degree in Fine Art from Queens University, in Kingston Ontario – where she specialised in oil painitng and graduated with honours. Her paintings reflect the beauty of women, interiors and still-life – as I said all the things that I love. There is a definite sense of old- world glamour in her work. If you would like to find out more about this artist and her work, then have a look at her website: Janet Hill Studio.

You can also buy prints of her work online,  from Etsy.

I have included some of my favourites for you to enjoy! This piece, “Prudence”, is my absolute favourite !

So all thats left to do now, is convince my man that he really needs to buy me one of her prints, possibly “Prudence”, as a Christmas gift!

Nail Polish Trends – My "likes" for Spring 2011

My Fashion File – Nail Polish” likes” for Spring 2011

Seeing as spring is in the air, I have started planning my spring/summer wardrobe and this would not be complete, without the addition of beautifully  groomed nails. So I have put together a mood board of my favourite colours – I love all the nude shades that are the trend at the moment, as well as shades of grey which are still popular. Essie ,which is my favourite brand, also have their amazing range of pastel shades – one in particular that I love is called “Lady Like”, an elegant soft mauve colour. This brand is my pick for a few reasons but most importantly their polish actually lasts!

So what are you waiting for – get shopping and find your favourites. I would love to hear what shades  you are wearing and what your favouites for the season are! 🙂
