Maybelline Superstay 14H Megawatt Lipstick {Beauty Review}

Maybelline-Super Stay 14H-Megawatt-Lipstick

Maybelline Superstay 14H Megawatt Lipstick

I recently received a few new Maybelline lipsticks to review and among them was this gorgeous foursome. They are from the Maybelline Superstay 14H Megawatt Lipstick range. These lipsticks are an addition to their existing Superstay 14H range.

If you are looking for super charged electric pigments to create a statement, in your face, bold lip, then these colours are perfect! The four Megawatt colours available in SA are Neon Pink 120, Flash of Fuschia 135, Burst of Coral 455 and Red Rays 575. I must admit I have become a bit boring with my lippie of late, opting for either a nude or soft pink lip {I can hear some of you shout BORING!} Well these shades are anything but boring!

First impressions – I love the bright summery shades and the packing is cute and compact, perfect for popping in your handbag. The Maybelline Superstay 14H Megawatt Lipstick has a delicious fruity sent, which while I am not sure why, is hugely appealing to me!

Before we explore the colours a bit more lets talk about the formulation. The Maybelline Superstay 14H Megawatt Lipstick has a light-weight formulation, which when first applied, has a waxy almost lip balm like feel to it. It does however set with a matt finish.

Another note about the formulation and application, which may just be personal opinion, as I have quite dry lips but it tends to emphasise the lines on my lips. It does not have a very smooth texture, which I am used to in other matt lipsticks I wear. I will definitely need to wear a lip primer or lip balm under these lipsticks. I  must admit am not a lover of “longwear” lipsticks, as I do find them quite drying.

As far as the staying power, they are highly pigment and the colour definitely lasts, even with eating and drinking, which is great. Whether it lasts 14 hours I am still to find out 😉 The colour does stain your lips, so be warned you will need either a beauty wipe or makeup remover on hand, to remove your lippie. I also think that wearing a lip liner, with the Maybelline Superstay 14H Megawatt Lipstick, creates a more even looking application but again that is personal preference!

On to the colours…

Maybelline-14H-MW-L-Flash of Fuchsia

Flash of Fuchsia ~ This gorgeous hot pink is definitley my favourite out of the four! Both because of the colour and application! For some reason this particular shade looks much smoother on my lips, than the others and as you all know pink if definitely my colour!

Maybelline-14H-MW-L-Neon-Pink

Neon Pink ~ I do love this shade but it is the most drying on my lips and over emphasises the lines on my lips. So yay on the colour but not so yay on the finish!

Maybelline-14H-MW-L-Burst-o

Burst of Coral ~ I love coral lipstick and have had a vague obsession with it for a while! While this is not my favourite out of the four, I do not dislike it. It is also more of a pink coral, than an orange coral, which I do prefer.

Maybelline-14H-MW-L-Red-Ray

Red Rays ~ Last but not least is Red Rays, which I really like! When I first had a closer look at it, I thought maybe the red was too orangey but once on, I am enjoying it more and more! I think I will definitely get a lot of wear out of this colour especially in winter.

So in closing, I really love the bright colours of the Maybelline Superstay 14H Megawatt Lipsticks and possibly I just need to get used to the slightly different formulation. Why don’t you give them a try for yourself and let me know what you think. They are available at selected Clicks, DisChem, Foschini and Edgars stores countrywide, RRP R134.95.

Fab Finds Born Lippy

Fab-Finds-Born-Lippy3

This weeks fab finds are all about soft luscious lips! Winter weather can play havoc with your skin and more particularly your lips. Lips can easily become dry and chapped, which is why it is important to take that extra care during the winter months and pamper them a bit more than usual 🙂

These are a few of the products I am trying out at the moment:

LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub is great for getting rid of dead skin cells and after you have scrubbed your lips, with this delicious smelling scrub you simply lick it off! Yes it is edible – awesome don’t you think!

I have been looking for a Lip Balm to carry in my makeup bag and found this great one at Wellness Warehouse. It is by Oh-lief and I love the fact that it is completely natural. It is not at all sticky and can easily be worn under your lipstick or gloss.

My favourite find is definitely this MAC Lipglass, in Fresh Air, it is a lovely subtle pink – very pretty! You could wear it over pink lipstick or on it own for a more natural look. It contains Jojoba Oil to help soften and condition the lips.

Lipstick Shades for Winter 2013

Lipstick-Trends-for-Autumn-lips

As you may have noticed I am really loving the plum and wine shades for winter 2013 from fashion right through to nail polish shades. In my opinion these colours are perfect for the season, sexy and sultry. Reminiscent of a glass of ruby, red wine or a bowl of delicious ripe plums!

These lipstick and gloss shades, I am sharing today, match perfectly with this winter palette, they are not too dark, for everyday wear but still uber-sexy.

MAC-lipliner-Spice2 MAC-lipliner-Spice

I am loving this lip pencil by MAC! The shade is Spice and it goes well with most pinks and brown shades, I have even used it with red lipstick before.

Maybelline-Lipstick2

Maybelline lipsticks are one of my favourites, actually it is the lipstick I buy more frequently and use most often. I tend to blend shades to get the colour I am looking for and these shades are perfect on their own or blended. Shade no.1 is Toffee Tango, a more subtle brownish plum mauve, with a bit of frost and no.2 is Warm & Cozy, I love this shade because it is neither pink nor brown but rather a perfect mix of both! Both shades are from the Colorsensational Range, which have crisper colour, from pure pigments and a great creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar.

Stila-lip-glaze Stila-lip-gloss

Last but not least is a bit of gloss or in this case Stila Lip Glaze in Cranberry. I like to wear gloss over my lipstick, as I love the moist feeling it gives my lips, as well as the shimmer. Unless I am wearing a matt lipstick you will always find me wearing gloss 🙂 This is the first Stila lip product that I am using and I must admit it took me while to figure out how to get it to work it! I love the glossy finish this lip gloss gives your lips and the colour is stunning!
