Mouth-watering New Harbour House Tasting Menu

Last week Grant and I enjoyed a magical date night at Harbour House in Kalk Bay. With the waves crashing below, the seaside setting is breathtaking and one of my favourite spots in Cape Town. It was our first date night out in ages! To say we were excited is an understatement! Plus, there was the added bonus of sampling the new Harbour House Tasting Menu.

The new Harbour House Tasting Menu offers guests the choice of a three or five-course dining experience and the option of a wine pairing with each course.

BBQ Jackfruit Rillette

BBQ Jack Fruit

BBQ pulled jackfruit, toasted brioche, nectarine-raisin chutney, with a fennel and celery slaw. The wine pairing for this unusual but flavourful dish was a Beaumont Chenin Blanc.

Harbour House Arancini

Butternut Arancini

Roasted butternut, creamy Gorgonzola, with citrus aioli and crispy curry leaves. The arancini dish was bursting with robust flavours and paired perfectly with the Neethlingshof Unwooded Chardonnay / Riesling.

Caramelle En Brodo

Seared scallop, lemon ricotta caramelle, parmesan, fennel, burnt cauliflower puree served in a seafood broth. Paired with Graham Beck Pinot Noir

Beef Rib Eye

Harbour House Tasting Menu

Grilled rib eye, with truffle mushroom sauce, pomme frites and an arugula salad. The Thelema Bordeaux Blend complimented the beef rib eye and truffle mushroom sauce.

Panna Cotta

Harbour House Tasting MenuPanna Cotta

Brazilian tonka bean spiced Panna Cotta, chocolate crumble & miso custard. The panna cotta paired perfectly with the Catherine Marshall Dessert Wine.

For me, the HH Arancini was the best savoury dish, and words cannot adequately express how excellent the panna cotta was! We both opted for the five-course menu, which was a bit too much for me in retrospect.

All in all, it was a fantastic evening. The wonderfully friendly staff were attentive but not intrusive, making for a wonderful experience.
