Coral Make Up Look

Coral-Make Up-Look

Coral-Make Up-Look

As you may have gathered I have a rather obsessive love of coral make up! I am not entirely sure when it started but it seems to have really gained momentum over the past year. I think it may have begun with buying my first coral nail polish a few years back and it has gradually become – all things coral!

Coral or orange shades are such beautiful summery colours, which can give your skin a wonderful sun-kissed glow. A Coral Make Up Look can be soft and pretty, if you incorporate subtle peach shades or vibrant and punchy, by using the deeper more orangey-red shades.

Coral Make Up Look

At a Smashbox event I attended last year the make up artist went for a gorgeous coral make up look on me, which initially was a bit of a shock but I must admit I loved it! She made my eyes quite statementy, as well as adding a sweep of bright coral blush but she kept my lips fairly subtle – I think overall the look worked, really well!

The biggest leap for me in my personal make up journey was trying a bright coral lip – I actually bought my first coral lipstick on a whim! I was in MAC Cavendish for something completely other and left with a Vegas Volt lipstick and Lasting Sensation lip pencil. After wearing Vegas Volt once, I was hooked!

Most people I speak to are frightened of bright lipstick, especially coral or orange shades and I think this is because they are uncertain, of how to wear them. I thought I would share a few of my tips for wearing coral make up.

MAC-Sheertone-Blush-Peaches

If you are just starting your Make Up journey, into all things coral then my advice is to perhaps start off with a coral or peach toned blush. I must admit I was a bit nervous when I bought my first coral blush, which is MAC’s Sheertone Blush in Peaches – I usually wear pink-toned blush but I have loved wearing Peaches! The blush is quite pigmented, so a little goes a long way. I apply my blush with an angled blush brush and gentle sweep it from the apple of my cheek, along my cheek bone.

MAC Spring Summer 2013

Next off you can add a pop of Coral on your eyes but be careful with the shade you go for. Something a bit more subtle and shimmery will look more natural than a bright orange eye shadow {unless you are a ramp model!}. If I am wearing colour on my eyes I tend to keep the rest of my look more natural and opt for a nude lip. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to make up – it just depends on how “out there” you want to be 🙂

Smashbox-Eye-Shadow-Flamingo

My favourite coral eyeshadow is from Smashbox in the colour Flamingo. It is a similar shade to the MAC shadow, used on the model, in the photo above, which is from the MAC Spring Summer Trends from 2013. Flamingo is a gorgeous coral with a lovely golden shimmer – the perfect summer colour for your eyes! This eye shadow is quite pigmented, so you can add a gentle sweep to your lids for a softer look or build up the colour for something a bit more dramatic. If I wear this shadow I usually just wear a bit of black liquid liner on my top lash line and black mascara on my lashes.

Essie-Tangerine-Nail-Polish

Nails are naturally the easiest way to add a pop of colour to your look without it being too in your face. I have quite a collection of coral nail polish shades but one of my all time favourites is this one, Tangerine by Essie. It is a vibrant orangey-red shade, which looks awesome on your hands or feet – I have blogged about it before here and here.

GOSH Lip Gloss 0082

When it comes to a coral lip if you are hesitant about wearing a bright colour, then opt for a sheer coral lip gloss or lip balm. These will give you the pop of colour you are looking for without being OTT.

Revlon-Colorburst-Lip-Butter

Above is a new favourite of mine the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Tutti Fruitti, the colour, when applied, reminds me of orange ice lollys 🙂

MAC-Lipstick-Vegas-Volt

If it is an out there bold lip you are looking for, then do not hold back! If I am doing a statement lip, I prefer to keep my eyeshadow more natural, with lashings of mascara and a sweep of colour on my cheeks. Above is my favourite coral lipstick Vegas Volt by MAC. A few other MAC coral lipsticks I am dying to try are Morange and Ravishing.

My tip when wearing any bright lipstick is to first go in with a lip pencil, which will help your lipstick last longer and stop the colour from bleeding. The lip pencil I use for my coral lipstick, is the one below Lasting Sensation also by MAC.

I know that trying new and different make up shades can be daunting but make up is meant to be fun and as long as you get the balance right anyone can wear coral! I thought I would share a video tutorial, by one of my favourite make up gurus, Lisa Elderidge. Hopefully this can help you incorporate coral into your everyday make up regime and give you a few hints and tips, as to what can work for you.

Strength

Strength Quotes

It always amazes me just when you think you have it all sorted, life throws you a curve ball! Well today is one of those days for me. I guess I can react one of two ways – kick and scream or just deal! Often you think you are not strong enough to handle certain things but some how you are able to find the inner strength, to deal with the situation and move forward.

Strength Quotes

So this is for those of you who do not believe you are strong enough! Remember you are stronger than you think – so pick yourself up, dust yourself off and carry on, carrying on!

Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t. Anonymous

Be Inspired, Blogging

Cape Town Blogger Meet

Near the end of last year Lauren over at Lipglossed Ninja, announced that she was planning a blogger event in Cape Town – the first ever Cape Town Blogger Meet!!! Yay!!! Needless to say I was super excited, which may seem strange to those, who are far happier hiding behind their computer screens 🙂 but I had been dying to meet some of my fellow bloggers for some time now and this opportunity was perfect.

I immediately contacted Lauren and asked if she could add me to the guest list, what I was not banking on was that she would ask me to speak at the event!

CPTBloggermeet6

Well this Saturday past was the big day and I must firstly say a big thank you to Lauren for organising a great event! The venue Shelley’s Gourmet Cafe, was a first for me, it was lovely, a treasure trove of pretty decor and all things girly, I will definitely be heading back soon.

CPTBloggermeet

After everyone had arrived and settled in with a beverage of their choice, Lauren welcomed all the gorgeous gals and introduced me to the very enthusiastic group of bloggers. Unfortunately the tables were arranged in two separate rooms, making it a bit tricky for me to get my message across to everyone successfully, hence my decision to do post and share what I spoke about on Saturday. As well as a few things I forgot to mention in all the excitement.

“When Lauren initially asked me to speak today I have to admit I was a tad nervous – not because I have an issue with public speaking, lets face it I love to talk! As my hubby pointed out recently woman use up to 20 000 words per day – I think I pretty much use my quota everyday 😉 My issue was more with finding the right things to say, something that would be relevant and encouraging to all of you here today.

When brainstorming and thinking about what to say, I thought about my own blogging journey and the things that have stood out for me.

Most importantly – I cannot stress this enough! Do something you are passionate about! Why waste time doing things you do not enjoy, life is too short. Find the thing or things you love, things that keep you awake at night and pursue those things. I also find it vital to reassess what I am doing every few months because you can so easily get drawn into doing something, you should not be doing.

As a blogger, it is helpful, if you can find your niche early in your blogging journey, this will help give your blog more direction. If like me you simply love too many different topics, it can be tricky but as long as you structure everything properly and do not confuse readers, it should work just fine. I guess that is where the banner Lifestyle Blog comes from 🙂

Find your own unique voice and sense of style in your writing. In other words be unique otherwise you will simply become a number. There are so many blogs out there and if you want to stand out in the crowd, you need to be you! Readers will respond better if they have a sense of the person behind the blog.

Good content is the backbone of a good blog and the only way your blog will grow, which comes back to being original. Use your own images as much as possible. While it is ok to post the odd press release, readers want to hear your views and opinions – not someone elses. Especially when it comes to writing reviews – it is impossible to only write positive reviews, so be honest. Make sure you actually use the products before you write about them, paid reviews are a great way to make money but the question I ask is – can you remain objective is someone if paying you?

Social media can be a powerful tool to help your blog grow but use it wisely! Do not use social media as a means of emotional venting, we are all guilty of this at some point in our lives but if you are trying to grow your brand, make sure social media becomes a positive extension of your blog. Do not allow social media likes or follows, to become the sole purpose of why you are blogging.

Most of all do not be afraid of change – if something is not working for you then change it. As some of you may know I decided to change my blog name and URL last year May. I essentially had to start over because I eventually lost most of my website traffic, due to a few technical hiccups. Many people thought I was crazy to take this step but something I have learnt is I need to remain true to who I am and follow my heart.

My main aim with blogging has always been to be an inspiration to others! I am by no means perfect and have lost my way occasionally but I feel that if I give the smallest amount back and help inspire and encourage woman, then I have done what I set out to do.

Last but certainly not least remember to follow your dreams – DREAM BIG! I will leave you with the words of one of my favourite quotes:

“If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough!” ~ Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

If your dreams do not scare you

Once again a big thank you to Lauren, for a fabulous event, with yummy food, fab people , stunning prizes and to top it off a goodie bag jammed full of awesomeness! I think I can speak on behalf of those who attended and say it was a wonderful success and I am looking forward to the next one 🙂

Happy New Year 2014

Happy New Year 2014

Happy New Year 2014

Happy New Year everyone! I cannot believe that we have come to the end of another year but I must admit I am happy to say goodbye to 2013! Although filled with many blessed moments, 2013 was a rather tempestuous year, which has left me feeling a bit battered and bruised!

2013 Photo Collage

I am determined to make drastic changes this year, both in my personal and “professional” life and I see 2014 as my “Fresh Start”. I am trusting that 2013 was a year of growth and stretching and 2014 will be a year of dreams realised and promises fulfilled!

I am not big on making New Years Resolutions but as I have said before, we all need goals to work towards. So the next few weeks will be a time of goal setting, as well as a time of reflection on the year gone by, which will be helpful when determining the things I need to “remove” from my life. I feel that a process of de-cluttering your life, is vital and essential for being able to move forward and claim the promises that are waiting for you.

My wish for you, is a year ahead filled with promise and dreams realised! Take the time to reflect on 2013 and set yourself goals for the year ahead! Find a word or motto, which will help you remained focused and will remind you of the goals you have set for yourself.

So my word{well actually words} or motto for 2014 is “Fresh Start” – what is yours?

Happy New Year 2014!

True Love

I was very blessed to have celebrated my 17th Wedding Anniversary this past weekend! Yikes that does sound like a long time but when you are spending the time with someone you truly love, it just seems to fly past!

True Love

As I have mentioned before I am a bit of a romantic and believe in true love, love at first-sight & all those *sigh* yes rather cliché things!

I do consider myself extremely fortunate to have found such a wonderful man, who is both my best friend and my lover. I am not saying that we live in a perfect utopia but having someone you can share both the good and the bad times with, is so important.

A True Love Story

Growing up girls in these turbulent times is not easy but one of my hopes for them is that they will know a love, which is as deep and true as the love I have felt for my man!
