It is probably this joie de vivre that attracts people of all ages to the “Mother City”. By day the outdoors and beaches beckon,  it is a great idea to go surfing or just spend a few relaxing hours on one of Cape Town’s many spectacular beaches. Some of the beaches, like Clifton Beach for example, is rated among the best city-beaches in the world. While many tourists may rate Cape Town foremost for its beaches, the city has a lot more to offer.

Table Mountain Proudly South African

Of course there is the world famous “Table Mountain” which offers a breathtaking view of the whole city and the surrounding Cape Area. If one prefers to go shopping, the idyllic V&A “Waterfront” shopping mall is a good option. For hikers the Lion’s Head mountain certainly offers a good challenge and if one is into diving, there are plenty of exciting snorkeling and diving spots around the cape.

After experiencing all these adventures by day, one can relax and get to meet the local South Africans at night at one of Cape Town’s many stylish bars and clubs. This means that every visit to Cape Town is filled with exciting moments. By day and by night there are more than enough ways in which to make the most out of every hour spent in this truly world-class city.

a beautiful life

Aromatics Header

Hi everyone I thought I would give you a bit of a heads up on a website that I am in the process of developing! At the beginning of 2013 I realised that I had come to a bit of a cross roads, in my life and blogging career. Although fulfilling to a point, I found that some of the blogging I was doing was not meeting my need to be creative and express myself. This called for a bit of introspection and re-assessing my long-term goals going forward.

After some very hard thinking and soul-searching I realised that I needed to go in a more creative direction. Those who know me well, know that I have a passionate love of food and this is generally how I express myself, creatively, on a day-to-day basis. Another passion, vague obsession actually, that I have developed is photography – so what better way to express myself than through food-photography.

At the beginning of last year I had a vision of starting an on-line style magazine. At this early point of development, I was uncertain what direction this website would follow but I started it anyway. Well a year later I have found out exactly what it was destined to be, I think the concept was there all along, I simply needed time to realise it!

Without further ado, I would like to introduce you to “a beautiful life”! Yes, you guessed it, at the heart of this website is my love of Food and Photography with a bit of travel thrown in for good measure. If you already follow my recipes this will be their new home, I will not remove anything from Super Mom Lifestyle(SML) but I will be publishing all of my new recipes, food-related reviews etc on “a beautiful life”.

I will in no way be closing down SML, “a beautiful life” will simply be a new addition to the family!

I would love you to pop over and have a look at a “beautiful life”, check it out and see what you think. I would love your feedback, it is still very much a work in progress and I am learning new things each day, which is the most wonderful part of this journey.

You will not find any poncey over the top recipes on the site, I am aiming to share my love of food with you –  fresh ingredients, simple easy to follow recipes, delicious food – cooked from the heart – MY JOURNEY WITH FOOD!

I would also like to develop a readers area on the website, where readers can share any recipes that they love but I will let you know when that is launched. To keep up to date with new recipes, news and foodie events please pop over and follow “a beautiful life” on Facebook and Twitter 🙂

Kalahari Ancient Desert Secrets

Inzolo Spa

At the end of last year we were invited to attend the launch of Kalahari Spa Products at the Inzolo Spa at the Hout Bay Manor.

Shelley went along to find out more about this inspired range of beauty products.

A bit of background info on Kalahari Spa Products:

Kalahari Spa was inspired by an extraordinary journey that started in the vast open plains of the Kalahari Desert in Africa. Carina Franck, Founder and Director of Kalahari Spa International, grew up on a farm in the Kalahari Desert where the rolling sand dunes and expansive blue skies shaped her childhood playground. “From an early age I knew that the heritage of this magical land and its humble people was something that would be ingrained within my core.”

Kalahari Spa

For the last decade Carina was in the forefront of the fast-moving beauty industry, local as well as international. With her passion for Africa, Carina was inspired to create a range of world-class Spa products that was shaped to capturing the unique characteristics of the Kalahari Desert. “It was important for me to merge the complete experience of the desert including the colours of the earth, raw textures and rare fragrances, in this signature range of products”. “My focus was on making the Kalahari Spa experience an intimate journey by bringing the ancient secrets of the desert to the client through touch, sound, visual interaction and smell.

Carina and her team strive for perfection and every product contains a bouquet of pure natural plant oils, making each product harmonious with nature by enhancing the true value of the desert and the plants of the Kalahari.

“We pushed the eco boundaries with regards to the use of naturally harvested botanical ingredients and we were sensitive towards the deserts vulnerable ecosystems. We insist on using reputable phytotrade organisations and certified sustainable sources. All our packaging is 100% recyclable and the paper we utilise is recycled! All these merits contribute to making Kalahari Spa a pioneering range and the first to capture the true meaning of Africa in this extraordinary manner.”

Some ingredients frequently used in the Kalahari Spa Products:

  • Hematite stone – this is ground into a fine powder and is excellent for the formation of collagen.
  • Resurrection plant – this plant can live for 50 years with no water and this extract is used to protect the skin against free radicals and seals in moisture for up to 24 hours

Other ingredients used in their products are Marula Seed Oil, Kalahari Clay, Red Dune Sand, Matura Seed Butter and Baobab Oil.

Signature-Scents-3

There are 4 signature fragrances in the range, which are from inspired by the Kalahari:

  • Khoi-San = Escape  – the main aroma being that of Buchu.
  • Dune = Relax  – this fragrance reminds one of sitting around a camp fire in the bush.
  • Tsamma = Refresh  – is a cooling, cucumber scent.
  • Wild Honey = Enhance  – it has a lovely honey fragrance with undertones of vanilla.

The Inzolo Spa Experience:

I personally found most of the products very pleasant and if they claimed to be non-greasy and quickly absorbed, they actually were! I particularly loved the Hand Cream, Cuticle Oil, Body Oil and the Body Balm. The Fragrance Tree was very pretty and makes an unusual and different ‘diffuser’. The Lip Balm works really well and dry lips are definitely a thing of the past. The majority of the products are safe to use on sensitive skin, one simply needs to select the correct fragrance range. My favourite scents were the Tsamma and Wild Honey range but the Dune was also very pleasant. I found the Khoi-San scent very strong initially and it would take some getting used to but I was assured that it is definitely one that grows on you quickly. ~

The products are very wholesome and the company has a great ethos and endeavours to use completely natural and sustainable ingredients in their products. ~ Shelley Nell
