Skinny jeans are still a top fashion trend but it is summer in SA and way too hot for jeans! So trade in your jeans for a cheeky pair of shorts. If you have the legs for it high-waisted shorts are super trendy, especially pretty lace ones but do not worry if you feel that these expose too much flesh, then try something in a longer bemuda style. There are styles for everyone!

I am loving this trend which is becoming increasingly popular from the beach to the boardroom, with flirty cut-off denim shorts in gorgeous pastel shades to chic tailored shorts worn with heels and a tailored jacket. As I mentioned there is a style combination for everyone!

To shop this trend in SA try major retailers such as Woolworths, Mr Price and Foschini. If you are looking for more tailored or lace shorts try stores such as Zara and Mango. I have bought quite a few pairs of shorts from Woolworths this season(see image below). They retail for R160 and are wonderfully soft and fit me well, without being to short!

Today’s Fashion Friday is reminiscent of the 50’s style Rock ñ Roll fashion, which brings back memories of the movie Grease, with flirty swing skirts, figure sculpting fitted bodices and a classic bob to complete the look.

These images were taken backstage at a Dior Show early last year, I simply love the drama that the photographer has managed to capture!

Casual Fashion Friday

I am in the throes of getting myself sorted for going away and thinking about what to pack for our summer holiday. All I want to pack are dresses, shorts and T-shirts but then we have weather like today and I realise I do need a few warmer options!

The thing about fashion is it does not always have to be over the top! Paired down casual fashion definitely has its place. Denim jeans are a casual staple of mine and I have lost count of how many different pairs I own. The most important thing about a pair of jeans is the fit – get that right and you have a friend for life!

I love rather casual but still very chic look, which Oliva Palmero has put together, in the top image. It is very simple really, all you need are a pair of skinny jeans, a casual shirt, a slouchy jumper and ballet flats. There is also nothing nicer than a great pair of jeans, with a long white T or linen shirt! Those items will definitely be on my packing list!

Today’s Fashion Friday is all about polka dots. I am loving this trend, from elegant black and white, to pretty coral and white dots. There are so many ways to wear polka dots, it is a fun way to dress for summer – you can opt for a dotty summer dress or a sheer dotty blouse, paired with shorts or jeans. I do think that it is one of those trends where less is more, so keep it simple and stylish and do not over do the dots!

It tis the season to be merry and the time of year end functions and Christmas parties galore! Well, with this in mind, I thought for Fashion Friday this week I would explore an alternative to the LBD, not everyone likes to wear a dress and black trousers can be such an elegant alternative.

Team a fitted pair of black or charcoal cigar pants with a sequined vest and a fitted black jacket and you can create a look fit for any occasion. Tuxedo jackets are super trendy at the moment and so versatile. You can wear them as part of a smart evening ensemble or with a pair of jeans and a T during the day for a more casual effect. An alternative to a jacket paired with black trousers, is to wear a bustier or tunic over your trousers, as seen in the image above of Emma Watson. A peplum top would also add a bit of flirty fun to a pair of tailored trousers.

As with all outfits accessories are so important to complete your look, you can keep it simple and opt for a black sequined clutch or go for something a bit more funky in a bright or neon colour. Shoes can also add a bit more piazza to your whole look, there is nothing wrong with a bit of bling or if you want to tone your whole look down nude heels would be perfect too.
