Fridays Quote -Your Destiny

dsc_0608

At this point in my life the most difficult thing for me, is to relinquish control over my destiny. All of me, body and soul would like to determine who I am going to be and where I am going. I am slowly realising that actually, I am not in control.

This could sound quite bizarre to some people but it’s not to say that I do not make choices and follow a certain path but all these things are pre-determined, by a far higher power. I guess it’s like trying to paint in the dark, you have the vision of what you would like the painting to look like but you are unable to determine the colours and you cannot see the canvas. Yes, the result would probably be a complete mess! I guess God is like the light, He helps you see what the end product should look like, and He gives you the plan and the skills to get there. You just need to be willing.

A great deal of what we experience in life is beyond our understanding and fighting destiny, is not a comfortable place to be. So my challenge is to take a step back and let God work in my life, however hard this may be for me.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

"My Spaces"

dsc_04241264-far-photograph

Something rather interesting has occurred to me lately, I find that I am approaching each new situation, with the expectation of a new and interesting “photo opp”. I lie awake at night thinking about what new adventures I will happen upon and how I can turn them into an interesting new photo project.

I am by no means a professional photographer but I have always found great joy in trying to capture a moment or a mood through photography. I have always been a very creative person and I find photography a good way to express more about myself and my environment.

My new project will be to explore “My Spaces”, be it my home environment or places that I find myself in. I will attempt to use photography to explore these spaces and transfer this, hopefully, into something interesting for others to share.

Through my blog, I have had the pleasure of ‘meeting’, other like-minded individuals and have been introduced to an entirely new world of creative photography. There are a few blogs I have come across that I have absolutely loved, one in particular is SimplyB Photos. The owner, Amy, is truly talented and I love the beautiful pictures of ‘Miss B’. I have entered her photography giveaway, even though we are miles apart, the luxury that the cyber universe affords you.  Perhaps one day we will meet and be able to share our experiences, in person.

This weekend I found my inspiration from the full moon that I managed to capture at dusk, a truly surreal experience which my pictures could not do justice to. We were up the West Coast of Cape Town, which I have mentioned in my local travel section before. It is rather isolated place and the perfect loaction to see many of Gods wonders.

Franschhoek

Franschhoek

FranscHHoek

Franschhoek is one of my favourite local destinations, in South Africa.  It is approximately an hour’s drive, travelling on the N1, from Cape Town. “Franschhoek” meaning ‘French corner’, is a beautiful town steeped in history and well renowned for good food and wine. For me it is the heart of the Cape Winelands and home to many of my favourite wine farms. My ultimate favourite is Graham Beck Wines {now Anthonij Rupert}; I love both the architecture of the buildings and the beautiful gardens on the estate. Not to forget the amazing wines, especially their Brut Rose NV, to be quaffed while lazing in the sun, while eating sumptuous cheeses.

The area is a gastronomic-delight; offering both good food and warm hospitality. There is a great variety of accommodation to choose from and we have yet to have had a disappointing experience staying there. Whenever we are afforded the opportunity to spend a romantic weekend away we inevitably end up choosing Franschhoek as our destination.

It is perfect for both winter and summer getaways; most guest houses are equipped for all seasons. The summers can be very hot, so remember to book accommodation with air-conditioning and a swimming pool. Winter on the other hand; which we found out in our most recent visit can be exceptionally cold. Especially when there is snow around, so go prepared and pack gloves! The most romantic thing about winter, in Franschhoek is relaxing next to a roaring log fire and sipping on one of the magnificent red wines on offer.

Franschhoek

‘Rose Cottage’

Our most recent choice of accommodation was Rose Cottage, on the most picturesque Burgundy Bourgogne Estate. The cottage is four-star, self-catering luxury; it has an open plan kitchen, lounge dining room and an exquisite master suite. Each cottage has its own garden and swimming pool and a lovely covered terrace. Not to forget the striking view of the Franschhoek valley from the terrace.

Franschhoek

So when you are next in Cape Town, take the time out to visit the charming town of Franschhoek and stay a while. There are shops, galleries and wine farms to explore and trails to hike, to mention but a few options. You will definitely not be bored.

"Love" – Friday's Quotes

“I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough..”

– Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook)

love-quote

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”  1 Corinthians 13:4

Have a happy Friday and do not forget to tell someone you love them!
