Beauty News

I have decided to revive my Beauty News posts, and there are so many excellent products I need to share with you. One of them is the new Inoar Vegan Range, which is also Cruelty-Free. I may not be a vegan myself, but I do prefer using products that are not tested on animals.

Announcing The Amazing Kiehl’s BB Cream

Kiehl's BB Cream

BB Cream has always been a struggle for me, particularly finding the right one. Most of them do not provide enough coverage or they make me breakout! Needless to say, I was very excited when the Amazing new Kiehls BB Cream arrived for me to review.

Kiehl's BB Cream

The Amazing Kiehl’s BB Cream

The Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream, was under development for two years. This included numerous formula revisions and more than 4,000 applications of the product. This remains true to Kiehl’s philosophy – to take the time to develop the right formula, with skincare in mind above all else.

Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream is a beauty industry advancement. At Kiehl’s, being first in a category is not our focus. We choose to deliver real benefits in formulas that take innovation to the next level. Our customers appreciate that we don’t launch and discontinue products as trends change. This BB is proof of our continued commitment to high formulation, safety and performance standards. We take the time and make the right product for our customers. ~ Cammie Cannella, Vice President of Global Education.

The Product

The first BB (the abbreviation for “blemish balm”) was developed by renowned German dermatologist Christine Schrammek in the 1950s. It was prescribed to patients to help conceal post-surgery imperfections, while nurturing and healing the skin. With today’s advanced skincare science, Kiehl’s chemists focused on this same essential functionality, concealing imperfections but not only for instant coverage but also long-term correction.

With 71% of customers expressing concern with uneven skin tone and lack of clarity, as well as nearly 29% citing dark spots as a concern, Kiehl’s chemists saw this as an opportunity. They have created a product, which effectively treats the skin, by offering skin tone correction using high potency Vitamin C.

The Kiehl’s BB Cream, has been developed with amino acid-coated natural mineral pigments, which conceals imperfections, while working to correct skin discolorations. Additional benefits include reducing the appearance of pores and fine lines, while providing all-day hydration and broad-spectrum SPF 50/ PA+++ protection.

The product is available in 5 shades – light, natural, medium, medium/deep and deep.

Kiehl's BB Cream

The Application

The formula is lightweight, yet still moisturising and gives you build-able coverage. I usually apply my serum first, one which I have been enjoying is the Kiehl’s Hydro Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate and then my Kiehl’s BB Cream. I find a little product goes a long way, so use it sparingly. Unless I am off to an event or meeting this will be enough of a base before I apply my makeup. If I am going out I will apply a bit of foundation or concealer to cover my pigmentation or any blemishes.

The Verdict

I think if it were a perfect world and I was still in my twenties, I would only wear a BB cream but there are definitely those days, when my skin needs a bit more coverage! That said I do really love the silky smooth application, as well as the fact that it has a SPF factor 50+++! So if it is BB Cream I am wearing, it will definitely be the Kiehl’s BB Cream.

I have tried two of the five shades, being Natural and Medium. I think Natural is more suited to my skin for winter but I think Medium will be better for the summer months.

This is definitely not a drugstore product in terms of price – at R525 it is certainly not cheap but spending a bit of money on good skincare is worth it!

Kiehl’s products are available from Edgars stores, as well as the standalone Kiehl’s stores.

My Top Beauty Must Haves for Aging Skin

Beauty Bloggers

As you begin to age it is most apparent that your skin needs a bit more TLC! Turning the corner and leaving my 30’s behind, has been quite an interesting journey emotionally and I am trying my hardest to embrace this new stage in my life!

The down side of aging is that it does begin to show on your skin! If you were good and started using a Serum and Eye Cream in your 20’s you will definitely be smiling!(sans the wrinkles and fine lines) For those of you who did not, well there is no time like the present to start!

I have put together a list of My Top Beauty Must Haves for Aging Skin, this is by no means all you should do to take care of your skin but these are my priority products. Brands are a personal choice and I am simply sharing what I am using at the moment for illustration purposes but you can choose a brand that suits your budget and skin type.

Eye-Cream

  • Eye Cream ~ I am using the Payot Soothing Eye Contour Care at the moment and it really does help relieve puffiness around the eye and I do find it very soothing and cooling on my skin. It is perfect if you have had a late night, apply before bed and again after you have cleansed in the morning. I am one of those lucky people who does not have many fine-lines or wrinkles around my eyes but I am not taking any chances! Other recommended Eye Creams: Loreal Revitalift, Estèe Lauder Advanced Night Eye Repair, Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle Correcting Eye Cream and Simple Soothing Eye Balm.

Masks

Face Mask ~ Using a face mask has always been part of my beauty routine but would love to have the time, to apply them more often! I find that I always remember to apply a face mask when I am in a hurry and most of them need between 10-20 minutes to activate, which does not work if you are short of time. This is why I love the Obey Your Body(OYB) Thermal Mask so much! It takes a maximum of 5 minutes to activate, which is perfect for someone with a busy life. What I have started doing is alternating the masks I use because although I enjoy the OYB Thermal Mask, I also love using a clay or cream mask. I usually save those for the evenings, when I have more time to pamper myself and soak in the tub with a mask on for 20 minutes plus! One of my other favourite face masks is the Sisley Facial Mask with Linden Blossom! Other recommended Face Masks:Elizabeth Arden Peel and Reveal Revitalising Treatment, Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask and Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque.

Night-Cream

Night Cream ~ This is a product which I wish I had started using sooner but because I have a combination skin, which tends to become oily if over moisturised, I always thought I did not need a night cream. I now realise that I simply needed to find one to suit my skin type! I am loving the OYB Night Cream I am reviewing and also found the Payot Nutricia Crème great for night-time use. Other recommended Night Creams: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Loreal Collagen Moisture Filler Day/Night Cream, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex and Clinque Youth Surge Night Age Decelarating Night Moisturiser.

Serum

Serum ~ Last but certainly not least and a top priority in my beauty routine is a Serum! As I mentioned in my review I am loving the OYB Radiance Serum and I can really feel the difference if I do not use it for a day. I have been using a serum twice a day for a while now and do find my skin firmer and more radiant! I cleanse and tone my skin and then apply the serum to dry skin, waiting a few minutes before I apply my moisturiser. Other recommended Serums: Elizabeth Arden Prevage Face Advanced Anti-aging Serun, Estee Lauder Repair Serum Fruition Extra Multi-Action Complex, Clarins Double Serum and Gosh All Day Moisture Serum.

Kiehl's Day

On 12 Nov 2003, the mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, declared 12 November KIEHL’S DAY, in honour and recognition of Kiehl’s contribution to New York City communities for over a century. Since then, the Kiehl’s Family around the world celebrates Kiehl’s Day on 12 November, and aims to focus our attentions on this day to making an impact in our communities.

In honour of the 1st Kiehl’s Day here in South Africa, Kiehl’s will be packing 5000 meals for their partners, Stop Hunger Now, which will go to children in informal Early Childhood Development centres (or crèches) in Alexandra*, Johannesburg.

The objectives for Kiehl’s Day and the initiative with Stop Hunger Now, is to create awareness in our immediate community, highlighting the  hunger concerns on our doorstep. The plea is to get Kiehl’s patrons and Sandton City shoppers to join the Kielh’s team and help pack a few meals, as part of the communities contribution.

If you are in Jozi on Monday 12 Nov, please do join us at the Kiehl’s store in Sandton City from 12pm-2pm, give a hand in packing some of the meals, so pop in to the store, and share the love! It would be wonderful to have you there, and we will also share some other exciting plans for the rest of Kiehl’s Month with you at that time (but don’t fret if you cannot be there, as we will send our press information as well afterwards) ~ Kiehl’s SA

*Stop Hunger Now, is a non-profit organisation, which aims to take care of the nutritional needs of children in early childhood development phase (below the age of 5) in disadvantaged areas. They focus their work in the informal sector with unregistered Early Childhood Development centres (or crèches), where they could care for up to 30 children during the day.
