I have a growing list of places I would like to stay before I die! A recent addition is La Residence Franschhoek! The luxuriously opulent La Residence Hotel is located on a 30-acre estate in the heart of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley.
Franschhoek or “French Corner” is one of my favourite small towns in the Western Cape. It is perfect for a night away, as it is only a short drive from the Cape Town CBD. The town is a popular destination for both tourists and locals; renowned not only for its natural beauty but also its fantastic food and wine. I had a good laugh the other day when a friend, visiting from the UK, commented on how so many Capetonians {me included} feel the need to leave Cape Town in search of that “perfect getaway”. I guess to a visitor this must seem crazy, especially as we have almost everything we could possibly want, right on our doorstep. A recent trip found Grant and I in the heart of the winelands, at the Oude Werf Hotel in Stellenbosch. The university town of Stellenbosch, is surrounded by the picturesque vineyards of the Cape Winelands and the mountainous nature reserves of Jonkershoek and Simonsberg.
