Home Decor Projects and Progress Updates

You may recall a post I did earlier this year outlining a few of our Home Decor Projects. Well, I thought I would give you a progress update. I have made some headway, but the wheels have been turning rather slowly. Mainly because, as you know, renovations, cost vast amounts of money. That and the fact that other priorities tend to push their way to the front of the queue.

I can, however, report that although progress has been slow the Home Decor Projects that we have undertaken were a success. Below I have given you an update on our recent decor projects, as well as a peek at our future endeavours.

Guest Loo

Prominent Paints Shades of Grey

While not a big structural project, the Guest Loo still required plumbing work and changing fixtures and fittings. I loved that this project afforded me the opportunity of introducing a few of my favourite trends in the room. These trends included dark grey walls, contrasted with white fittings and trim, as well as pendant lighting!

Something I have learnt along my renovation journey is to keep the big items in the room neutral. You can then add colour to your space, using wall paint and accessories. In the bathroom, we opted for a white, wall-hung unit for the basin and a modern stainless mixer. A dark grey feature wall adds that wow factor and keeping the rest white keeps the space light and fresh.

We did encounter a few hiccups along the way, with the plumber hitting electrical wires, which were not meant to be where they were. Those are the joys of renovating a house, which you did not build from scratch.

All-in-all, I am thrilled with how it turned out, and although I would still like to add a bit of tiling above the hand basin, it was a success!

The Kitchen

Kitchen Lighting

As I mentioned in the previous post, our kitchen cabinets and counters are white which is the perfect blank canvas. My main issue in the kitchen was the light fixtures, which needed replacing. To add a bit of drama in the room, I introduced black and copper light fittings. I also changed out the barstools, for new bistro style bar stools, in black, from Mr Price. Not only were they affordable but I think they look fantastic and are a great contrast to the white.

Decor Projects

I also decided to get creative and make a Framed Chalkboard in the kitchen; I really enjoyed this DIY project. There is still a long list of DIY projects I would like to tackle; I just need to make the time.

The Living Room

Unfortunately, our living room projects had to take a backseat, but are most certainly not forgotten. The floors are in dire need of redoing, as with the sofas. A more immediate project I am hoping to tackle is the dark wood furniture, which I would like to paint with chalk paint but I have still not worked up the nerve to give it a go.

Future Projects

Decor Projects Minimalist Bathroom

After giving all our building plans quite a bit of consideration, Grant and I have decided to go ahead with a few internal renovations. Some of the other more significant projects require groundwork, as well as foundations, which naturally means lots and lots of cash! With this in mind and a limited budget, we have decided to go ahead with both the girl’s bedrooms and bathrooms. We will also turn our garage into a TV room or chill-room, as the girls like to call it.

If all goes well, we will be starting with these renovations next week. It is going to be chaos with demolition work, but I think we are all super excited to be making some progress. I will hopefully be able to share snippets along the way on social media and do blog updates when if and when I can but most definitely after the projects have been completed.
