My November 2012 rubybox

Where indeed has the year gone? I cannot believe that we are a less than a month away from Christmas but here we are! It has been a great year of trying out new and different beauty brands, some of which I would never have encountered had it not been for rubybox.

My November 2012 rubybox did contain three full size products but I must admit I missed having a skin care element in the box this month but without further a do here is my review:

Armani Code, both the woman’s and men’s fragrance has been a firm favourite of both mine and my hubby for a while now!

Armani Code Pour Femme ~ is fresh and sexy, my definition of the sporty girls fragrance, it combines zesty citrus, with ginger and exotic jasmine and orange blossom. With my favourite vanilla notes to round it all off beautifully!

Armani Code ~ This is one of my favourite mens fragrances! It is mysterious with a hint of the orient and a sexy balance of citrus and soft woody notes. Makes my man smell yummy! 🙂

Also in the November rubybox were three full size products from Essence Cosmetics, which I have not used much before.

Essence Lipgloss ~ I am a lipgloss lover and although this promises to be an ultra-glossy gloss I was not overly impressed, it did the job but I prefer a slighty thicker gloss. It is not too sticky which is always good but if I am completely honest I would not buy it again,  I feel that there are far better options available. ( the only sway towards it would be the extremely reasonable price tag of R19.95)

Essence Colour & Go in Nude It ~ I have been looking for a nude nail polish for a little while now but not been too successful, many of them dry with a grey tinge. This one was definitely more successful colour-wise but it does take at least two coats to see the true colour. Again price-wise it beats all the competition, at R19.95 it is a steal!

Essence Eyeliner in Think Khaki ~ I have not worn coloured eyeliner in years but I was really impressed with how this looked on my eye. I usually wear a nude eye, with either brown or black eyeliner during the day, so this is quite a nice change. Again the price is really low at R14.95.

My October 2012 rubybox

October has been a rather busy month but one of my highlights each month is the arrival of my Rubybox, it is exciting to see what new products the Rubies have sent my way. My October 2012 rubybox included a how-to self-breast-examination, in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness month, something we all need to be more aware of!

My October rubybox Review:

  • African Extracts Rooibos Anti-Ageing Hand & Nail Cream – I am fairly besotted with hand-care and use hand cream religiously. I feel that you can really tell a person’s age by looking at the hands – so why not try to fool nature and keep them looking as young as possible! The cream is lovely and nourishing, it coats your hands well and almost acts as a barrier cream. It does have a slightly sticky feel to it once applied and a fairly strong fragrance but overall it does the job of moisturising your hands.
  • Gatineau Melatogenine AOX Probiotics – As I may have mentioned before I am rocking the big 40, so anti-aging is top off my priority list when it comes to buying skin care. This cream promises the whole she-bang, it is rich in antioxidants and probiotics, to slow down the visible signs of ageing. I love the feel of the cream on my skin although it is fairly thick and a tad greasy for me to use during the day but it left the skin on my face and neck silky smooth.
  • Kenzo Madly – first off let me say I am not a big Kenzo fan, I find their fragrances tend to be a bit overpowering and extremely floral and can give me a headache, when I wear them. I did however remain open-minded when trying the samples, out of the two Madly is definitely more me, it is floral with Jasmine notes but it also has a sensual musky element which is something I like in a fragrance.
  • Kenzo Flower – it has a lovely floral scent but this is not the fragrance for me, even though it has notes of vanilla which I love, I find the overall scent too sweet.
  • Kenzo Homme Sport – something for the man in your life! It is a rather musky fragrance, with notes of aromatic mint, ginger and cedarwood. My first thought was that it was quite a heavy fragrance but as the scent developed and it settled on Mr I decided that I quite liked it!
  • Rubybox Tools Eye Lash Curler – this is a new addition to Rubybox’s range of “tools”, I have never used an eye lash curler before and I must admit I was a bit nervous when trying it for the first time, scared that I would accidentally pull out all my eyelashes if I slipped. Thankfully I did not pull them out and I did notice a bit more of a up-swept curl, on my lashes but I think I still need to get the hang of using this beauty tool!
  • Zehra Age Beautifully – the last item in this months box is by far the most intriguing! It is an oral collagen supplement, to help you maintain youthful looking skin. I have not tried it yet and I am somewhat sceptical but hey best I try it and find out for myself. The Zehra supplement contains Peptan Collagen, to help stimulate collagen production, improve skin hydration and re-densify the dermis.

September Glossybox

My September Glossybox was crammed full of wonderful treats, quite a few brands that I have been dying to try, two different fragrances (one of my favourite parts of beauty boxes) and even a rather trendy gold cuff bangle!

  • Prada Candy by Prada – this is a fragrance I have been wanting to try for a while! The packaging is so pretty and pink! The fragrance is quite subtle in my opinion, feminine and sophisticated. A good fragrance for during the day as it is not too over powering, with top notes of caramel and warm vanilla tones, which I love.
  • CH L’eau by Carolina Herrera – out of the two fragrances in this months box this is my favourite! All though the fragrance is said to be flowery on the nose, it is not overly floral. I found it rather fresh with quite a spicy finish, more of a romantic evening out fragrance – so pretty! {Mr loves it too – I may have to hint for it to appear in my Christmas stocking!}
  • Sans Soucis Deep Moist Depot – this two-phase moisture concentrate by Sans Soucis combines botanical ingredients with enriching minerals. It is suitable for all skin types and can be applied to cleansed skin daily. You are required to shake well before use to combine the two-phase ingredients into an emulsion.
  • L’Occitane Almond Milk Concentrate – this creamy formula is suitable for all over body use. It combines almond protein and soft silicium to help support collage synthesis, into a wonderfully rich milk concentrate to help firm and tone the skin.
  • Salon Care Moisture Boost Serum – this locally manufactured serum uses Hyaluronic Acid to boost the skin and help retain moisture. I think that a serum should be a part of your daily skin care regime, especially as you start getting a bit older. I have used another product with Hyaluronic Acid and found it really firms your skin and gives it an overall glow. My recommendation is to use a serum in the evening after cleansing.
  • 4 Flavour Gold Cuff – a great treat in this months box and bang on trend as well! Gold is a definite must for the season and a cuff is a great addition to your accessory collection for summer.

Beauty, Beauty Box, Beauty Pick of the Week, Beauty Products, Online Shopping

My September 2012 rubybox

I am a bit delayed with my review of My September rubybox but we have been rather busy over the past few weeks, my hubby’s youngest brother got married on Saturday! Needless to say it has been a little bit chaotic around here lately! I also prefer to try out the products for more than a week, before I report back about them. Without further a do here is my review:

September is the first birthday of rubybox and the also saw the joining of forces between rubybox and GlamBox, so this months box is all about celebrating!

  • Camilla Nail Polish – a full-size bottle of a pretty magenta nail polish perfect for the new season! I loved the colour but did find that the polish chipped fairly easliy but with it only costing R25.99 a bottle it great value for money.
  • Very Irresistiblle L’Intense by Givenchy – a very sensual, feminine fragrance. The fragrance is rather heady with notes of white musk, Turkish rose and patchouli – perfect for wearing in the long summer evenings ahead! A 50ml bottle will cost you R945.
  • Jean d’Aveze White Lotus Cream – I have adored using this cream and it will definitely be one that I will but again. I have been struggling with pigmentation for the past few years and tried a host of different treatments and creams, with most making the pigmentation worse. This cream on the other hand was soothing and calming on my skin. It is packed with soothing white lotus and plumping hyaluronic acid and I saw a dramatic difference in my skin after only a week of using it! At R560 for 50ml this cream is certainly not cheap but if you use it sparingly it should last a few months.
  • Palmolive Thermal Spa Turkish Bath – I am not really a shower gel gal, I much prefer a good old cake of soap but I am always willing to try something different! I must admit the gel has a wonderfully invigorating smell and does the job, leaving you feeling refreshed and pampered. This full-size product will cost you R34.99.
  • Piz Buin Tan & Protect SPF15 Lotion – I have to be really honest I have not tried the Piz Buin Tan Lotion yet, partly because the weather has been so hit and miss and with the wedding coming up I did not want to experiment with any new sun products, on my delicate winter-skin! So this is one I will have to get back to you on but it promises to deliver non-sticky, sweat and water-resistant SPF protection. A 150ml tube of the Piz-Buin Tan Lotion will cost you R190, which is on par with most other sun protection.
