One of my favourites pamper products are facial masks and I love having the opportunity to try-out and review different beauty products, especially facial masks 🙂 Alive Products contacted me recently to review a few of their products and I could not resist the offer! I was sent two different facial masks, the ©RED VELVET mask for myself and the ©ACNE COMBAT mask, for my eldest daughter. [Read more…]

Tom Ford Private Blend Collection
I know I am sooo behind the curve on this one but I am afraid life has indeed taken over and the past few weeks have been a complete blur. It is an understatement that as kids get older you get busier! So all that aside I could not – not tell you about the Tom Ford Private Blend Launch, which I attended a few weeks back!
The weather on the day of the launch was beyond awful but when has that ever stopped me!!?? As you may know I am a bit of a sucker for beauty products and was really keen to find out more about the Tom Ford beauty brand! I even managed to squeeze in a mini-makeover{hair & makeup}, courtesy of Spoilt Salon in Green Point! I am still getting use to my über blonde self but my makeup was smoking hot thanks to Adele, from Spoilt Salon. After getting my glam on I set out for Edgars in the V&A Waterfront Cape Town, which was the setting for the TomFord launch.
Bubbly was flowing and the all the beauties were out in their finery; I must admit I am a bit of a voyeur and loving seeing what everyone is wearing 🙂 The excitement was electric, almost as if Tom Ford was actually there in person – which I am certain, no one would have minded! Before the official opening we had the opportunity to visit the stunning new Tom Ford Counter, situated in Edgars at the V&A Waterfront and experience the fragrances first hand. I must admit this was a first time experience for me, as I have not had the opportunity, to try any of the Tom Ford fragrances before.
As well as the Tom Ford Private Blend Collection, his signature fragrances are also available at the new counter. The Private Blend Collection is Tom Fords answer to artisanal scent.
“Packaged in a single bottle design, Private Blend delivers sixteen highly original accords of the most fascinating notes in a parfumer’s lexicon{dictionary}. Each fragrance begins with a precious extraction of a single note, such as amber, tobacco, black violet, leather, gardenia and oud wood. Then the secondary sequences of extraordinary ingredients are wrapped around each note to create a completely developed and complex eau de parfum.” Suggested Retails Price per 50 ml R1800
An added bonus was that we were treated to a lippie touch up from the Tom Ford range of gorgeous lip colours. Although I had a nude lip for the night I choose Casablanca, which is a plummy pink, with a brownish undertone ~ a very pretty feminine colour!
This lip stick colour would be perfect for everyday wear and the Tom Ford Lipsticks contain soja seed extract, Brazillian murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil to give them an ultra-creamy texture and seamless application. If it were not for the rather steep price I would be hooked!
Hopefully this is only the start and we will see much more of the Tom Ford brand in South Africa ~ I would love to own a pair of Tom Ford heels!
As luck would have, it we received a bottle of Black Orchid to take home, which was amazing, seen as it is definitely my kind of fragrance! Thank you again to Edgars and Tom Ford for a wonderful evening!
Tanqueray Gin and Lindt Chocolate Pairing
Last week I was invited to attend an exclusive cocktail and chocolate tasting evening, hosted at the Lindt Chocolate Studio, at the Cape Quarter in Cape Town. The event was held to celebrate a new partnership, between Tanqueray Gin and Lindt Chocolate!
The great thing is we were allowed to take a plus one, so I took the hubby – we both love Gin, especially Tanqueray and who can resist Lindt Chocolate!
We had high hopes for the evening and we were not dissapointed! First off we were treated to a master class, in cocktail making, by an expert mixologist. He introduced us to the craft that is Gin production. Who knew that it was such and involved process!
The recipe for Tanqueray remains a a closely guarded trade secret but is known to contain four key botanicals which are juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice. These ingredients all work together in perfect harmony to create a unique London dry gin.
Next on the agenda was preparing the new Tanqueray cocktails. It was great to not only taste but to prepare the cocktails ourselves, we learnt all the tricks of the trade when it comes to cocktail-making!
My favourite cocktail was the “Flipped Symphony” a take on the traditional “Eggnog” – it was totally delish, with hints of Vanilla and Espresso two of my favourite flavours.
Each cocktail was paired with a Lindt Chocolate Flavour and my favourite combo, was the Coconut Intense with the Tanqueray Breeze.
We then had the honour of meeting a Lindt chocolatier, who educated us on all things chocolate! To top off a wonderful evening we were shown how to master a decadent chocolate fondant dessert. Made with Lindt chocolate of course! This was served with the most delicious Vanilla and Coconut Ice Cream – also made by Lindt.
I thought I would share the Chocolate Fondant Recipe with you – it looked so super easy to make and is definitely something I am going to try and make!
Lindt 70% Chocolate Fondant:
Ingredients:
- 225g 70% Excellence Lindt Chocolate
- 22g Butter
- Orange Extract
- 250g Eggs
- 80g Egg Yolks
- 200g Sugar
- 100g Flour
- Salt
Method:
Preheat your oven to 180ºc. Place the butter, chocolate into a double boiler and allow to melt or alternatively melt gently in the microwave. Mix the eggs and the egg yokes together lightly, do not whisk air in to them. Pour the melted chocolate mix into the eggs, whilst stirring. Then stir in the sugar and flour mix. Mix until a smooth mass – do not over mix. Grease your ramekins or dariole molds and coat with castor sugar. Pour the Fondant mixture into a piping bag and pipe into your molds. Bake at 180ºc for 11minutes. Allow to rest once baked then unmold and serve.
Many thanks to both Tanqueray and Lindt for a fabulously fun evening!

Obey Your Body Product Review
Last month I told you about the Obey Your Body Products which I received to review. Well it is just over a month since I started using them, which I feel it enough time to establish whether or not I like the products or more importantly if my skin likes the products!
The products that I am reviewing are mostly from the Age-Control Range. They are Decorin Age-Control Day Cream SPF15, Decorin Age-Control Night Cream, Decorin Age-Control Thermal Mask and Decorin Age-Control Radiance Serum. The Decorin Age-Control (DECO) Collection fights the naturally occurring effects of aging. This range is aimed at skin which is showing signs of aging and promises to create youthful and healthy looking skin – something at the age of 40 I am definitely looking to achieve!
The other two products I received to review are the Radiance Care Creamy Milk Cleanser and Radiance Care Clarifying Facial Toner, both a cleanser and a toner should be part of your daily skincare regime.
I must admit that I was rather sceptical about the Obey Your Body Products at first, after hearing mixed reviews about the products but I can confirm that I have nothing but positive feedback to give you – so here goes:
- Decorin Age-Control Day Cream SPF15 ~ This is a definite winner! Even my hubby has been using it, he is somewhat of a metrosexual when it comes to using products and looking after his appearance but I have no complaints, at least he is looking after his skin. What I love most about this product, is that although it is very moisturising, it is lightweight and does not leave your skin feeling greasy. It also has the added benefit of containing an SPF15, which is perfect for me as I have pigmentation and need to use sunblock to prevent the pigmentation from becoming darker.
- Decorin Age-Control Night Cream ~ I am all about trying to keep that youthful glow and feel that is very important to use a night cream! The younger you start the better but the most important thing is to find a night cream which suits your skin type. The Decorin Night Cream works overnight to nourish and firm stressed skin with the innovative collagen organizing tetrapeptide Decorinyl®. I found this cream especially beneficial after spending a few days up the West Coast, as my skin became incredibly dry after spending time in the salty sea water but after a few nights of using this cream it was soft and supple again.
- Decorin Age-Control Thermal Mask ~ This mask is quick and easy to use and you do not need to leave it on your skin for longer than 3-5 minutes. Do not be alarmed however, as you will feel a rather unusual heating sensation after application, which indicates that the mask is active. You then rinse off thoroughly with lukewarm water. The Decorin Thermal Mask is recommended for use once weekly and I have taken to using if I know I have an evening out, as gives your skin a wonderful glow.
- Decorin Age-Control Radiance Serum ~ This is probably my favourite product! I started using a serum in my daily routine well over a year ago and I can immediately feel the difference in my skin if I forget to apply it. I have tried quite a few but I must admit this is probably the best one I have tried thus far. I apply it to cleansed skin in the morning and evening, before my moisturiser. I find that it leaves my skin wonderfully silky and smooth!
The DECORIN Collection from ObeyYourBody® gives an immediate lift to tired and stressed skin. The range contains the innovative collagen organizing tetrapeptide Decorinyl®. The Decorin (DECO) range is enriched with powerful antioxidants and natural herbal complexes to help you create radiant, youthful and healthy looking skin. The products also provide long-term care that tightens, firms and prevents dry lines and wrinkles. ~ Obey Your Body
- Radiance Care Creamy Milk Cleanser ~ I love using a creamy cleanser especially to remove my eye makeup and the Radiance Creamy Milk Cleanser is suitable for all skin types. It is also perfect for sensitive and problem skin, as it is very mild and gentle on the skin. It also has a wonderful fresh fragrance without being over perfumed.
- Radiance Care Clarifying Facial Toner ~ I feel that a toner should also be a vital part of your daily beauty care but again it is important to find one that is suitable for your skin type. Some Toners can be very astringent and leave your skin feeling dry and taut. The Radiance Care Clarifying Facial Toner however is not one of those, much like the cleanser it is very gentle and helps to balance the skin’s natural protective pH, leaving your skin feeling radiant and healthy.
My overall experience with all the products has been very positive and I have noticed a wonderful renewed firmness and glow to my skin! I am also hoping to review the Pigmentation Cream, from Obey Your Body, as this condition is a major concern of mine.
