Sassy Chic is an online Fashion and Lingerie retailer, offering local fashion lovers affordable but beautiful and trendy clothing, lingerie and accessories. The new spring/summer 2013 season will see them welcome new designer collections to their virtual store.

With the current designers available on their website already demonstrating emphasis on the local fashion and design industry, SassyChic welcomes two equally talented South African designers to their showcase: Silk Orchid and Spilt Milk.

Silk Orchid, by designer Anneen Henze, launched in June last year. Silk Orchid collections offer styling that is classically feminine and chic, while still maintaining an element of comfort. Women can expect functional designs with high-fashion elements that flatter and enhance their form. Anneen’s spring/summer 2013 collection features all of this season’s latest trends including Gatsby themes, pretty pastels and of course, the peplum shape.

Spilt Milk, by Alma van den Berg, is a proudly South African brand from Cape Town. Founded in 2004, this easy to wear, elegant and beautifully styled label offers unique interpretations of international trends. Spilt Milk has been showcased at various prestigious events over the past few years and was also featured on Top Billing for the Momentum Lifestyles Awards. The latest spring/summer 2013 collection, in Alma’s words, is “an outcome of my recent journey to India and an admiration of vintage silhouettes… draped saris and the naturally draped lines of wet clothing as a result of a cleansing ritual in the river influenced the use of delicate materials, which have a beautiful drape, soft touch and see-through quality such as chiffon, organza and georgettes.”

Current collections by designers already featured on SassyChic are also available, including labels such as Non-European by Tarien Malherbe, TWO and LABEL Femme.

Style Trends Spring 2012

Two major fashion trends that were big last season and continue to pop up everywhere you look are bright patterns or florals and studding detail. As we move into the warmer spring and summer months in South Africa we are seeing more dresses and skirts with pretty floral patterns, both brights and pastels. Floral Jackets are still a big fashion trend, with the main change being the lighter-weight fabric for spring/summer.

Stud detail is a trend which is big in all aspects of fashion, from accessories and shoes, to jackets and trousers. Gold spiked bracelets and rings adorn the wrists and fingers of the fashion forward and if gold is not your thing then you will also find these bracelets and rings in pretty pastels – perfect for spring/summer.

These are a few of the style trends that you will see in store at the moment and you can really bling-it-up and make a fashion statement or just subtly add an element of it in to your wardrobe for a bit of extra WOW!

My September 2012 rubybox

I am a bit delayed with my review of My September rubybox but we have been rather busy over the past few weeks, my hubby’s youngest brother got married on Saturday! Needless to say it has been a little bit chaotic around here lately! I also prefer to try out the products for more than a week, before I report back about them. Without further a do here is my review:

September is the first birthday of rubybox and the also saw the joining of forces between rubybox and GlamBox, so this months box is all about celebrating!

  • Camilla Nail Polish – a full-size bottle of a pretty magenta nail polish perfect for the new season! I loved the colour but did find that the polish chipped fairly easliy but with it only costing R25.99 a bottle it great value for money.
  • Very Irresistiblle L’Intense by Givenchy – a very sensual, feminine fragrance. The fragrance is rather heady with notes of white musk, Turkish rose and patchouli – perfect for wearing in the long summer evenings ahead! A 50ml bottle will cost you R945.
  • Jean d’Aveze White Lotus Cream – I have adored using this cream and it will definitely be one that I will but again. I have been struggling with pigmentation for the past few years and tried a host of different treatments and creams, with most making the pigmentation worse. This cream on the other hand was soothing and calming on my skin. It is packed with soothing white lotus and plumping hyaluronic acid and I saw a dramatic difference in my skin after only a week of using it! At R560 for 50ml this cream is certainly not cheap but if you use it sparingly it should last a few months.
  • Palmolive Thermal Spa Turkish Bath – I am not really a shower gel gal, I much prefer a good old cake of soap but I am always willing to try something different! I must admit the gel has a wonderfully invigorating smell and does the job, leaving you feeling refreshed and pampered. This full-size product will cost you R34.99.
  • Piz Buin Tan & Protect SPF15 Lotion – I have to be really honest I have not tried the Piz Buin Tan Lotion yet, partly because the weather has been so hit and miss and with the wedding coming up I did not want to experiment with any new sun products, on my delicate winter-skin! So this is one I will have to get back to you on but it promises to deliver non-sticky, sweat and water-resistant SPF protection. A 150ml tube of the Piz-Buin Tan Lotion will cost you R190, which is on par with most other sun protection.

Look of the Week

My look of the week, chosen by one of my fashion interns, features the lovely Emma Watson. Looking super chic in her monochromatic ensemble, with über skinny black jeans and a structured white jacket. This is a style that I am particularly partial to myself. It is a very versatile look that can easily translate from a smart day look to a sexy evening outfit with the help of different accessories. You can tone this look down during the day by swopping the wedges for cute black pumps.

My favourite part of the outfit has to be her gorgeous Tom Ford wedge heels, the chunky chain detail around the ankle is bang on trend and peep-toes are also rather big this season.

LUSH Opening in Cape Town

If you are not familiar with the LUSH brand then you have been missing out! I fell in love with their quirky style of cosmetics and bath products on our visits to the UK. The super exciting news is that they will be opening right here in the Mother City later this month!

This British High Street beauty retailer’s approach to retail-cosmetics is somewhat “out-the-box” – they are a self-proclaimed cosmetics grocers rather than a traditional cosmetics company. Think hand-made, natural and fresh merchandise, butchers’ blocks, pricing by weight, greaseproof paper wrapping and even best-by dates.

In LUSH’s “beauty delis”, soaps are piled high on Provencal-style wooden tables like strange exotic cheeses, whilst a myriad of orbs (fizzing bath ballistics) are presented in-store like perfectly round apples.

I’ve always loved the way fruit and vegetables are displayed in a grocery store,” says Mark Constantine, LUSH’s managing director who set up the company in 1995 with a close-knit team with whom he has worked for over 20 years. The inspiration behind the store design was, he says, “cheese shops and German veggie restaurants – and any fresh fish counter.”

At LUSH, customers are encouraged to choose their cosmetics personally from a pic’n’mix style display. You can choose from chunks of solid shampoo, bubble slices or from the Bio Fresh Range, where products carry use-by dates and are displayed on the chilled fish counter-style cabinet.

“The whole point of LUSH is that it should be fun for our customers and fun for us, while at the same time offering original products that work and give value for money. ” ~ Mark Constantine

LUSH cosmetics are made to be as natural as possible and are crammed with top quality organic (where possible) ingredients such as herbs, fruit, flowers and essential oils. They avoid the use of synthetic preservatives, which are damaging to the environment. Not only do they use the freshest ingredients but the majority of the products have little or no packaging, making it an ecologically responsible choice as well.

Product ingredients are clearly labelled and merchandise includes items that are suitable for both vegetarians and vegans. None of the LUSH products are tested on animals, and they also guarantee that none of their suppliers, test any of their raw materials (including those not bought directly by LUSH) on animals either.

With over 800 shops worldwide, the brand has grown dramatically since the first shop opened in Poole (UK) in April 1994. The September 2012 opening will see the launch of the first Lush store on African soil, here in our very own city – Cape Town!

For a little fun pop over to Lush.com and check your Emotional Brilliance:

Super Mom Blog will be attending the launch and will report back afterwards to tell you all about it, with a few pics as well!
