Tips To Get Your Body Summer-Ready

Bio-Oil is a specialist skin care product, which I have being using for many years and I can assure you it really works! Not only does it improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks, it also helps correct uneven skin tone. It is one of the world’s fastest growing skin care brands and is sold in 19 countries across five continents including the UK, the USA and Japan. It is South Africa’s No. 1 selling scar and stretch mark product. Its enhanced formulation, which contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil™, also makes it highly effective for numerous other skin concerns, including ageing, dehydrated and sunburnt skin.

With Spring in the air and the promise of summer and sunny beach days on the way, Bio-Oil offers some advice on how to keep your skin moisturised, healthy and glowing this summer.

Cosmetic scientist, John Knowlton (C. Chem., MRSC, Dip. Cos. Sci. (GB)) says that one of the most important factors for a naturally healthy looking skin is the amount of moisture it contains. Besides using a good moisturiser like Bio-Oil, limited sun exposure, drinking plenty of water and making sure you use the correct skin care products will assist you in maintaining your glow this summer.

Here are some practical tips on how to stay safe in the sun while keeping your skin moisturised, healthy and glowing:

  • Self-tanning: Use a good self-tanning lotion instead of sitting in the sun. Avoid dryness caused by these products by massaging Bio-Oil into your skin twice a day to lock in your skin’s moisture, and give your tan extra staying power.
  • Delicate décolletage: Your neck and chest often show sun damage first, with sun-induced superficial lines and wrinkles caused by skin dehydration. Smooth them out with Bio-Oil’s super moisturising properties, which help retain the skin’s own moisture.
  • Soothe the burn: While you should be sun savvy enough not to get burnt, if it does happen put a few drops of Bio-Oil in a cool bath and apply directly to the damaged skin. The Chamomile extract and Calendula oil in Bio-Oil are renowned for their ability to soothe red, stinging skin.
  • Happy hair days: For unruly, thick hair prone to dryness, Bio-Oil will condition and soften your locks. Apply to damp hair after a wash and cover with a towel or hair-wrap. Sleep with your hair wrapped up to lock in moisture and avoid soiling bed linen. Rinse your hair in the morning and style as usual.

Bio-Oil contains no preservatives, is dermatologically tested, hypo-allergenic, non-acnegenic and suitable for all ages and skin types.

Bio-Oil is available at pharmacies and select retail outlets nationwide in 60ml (R49.99), 125ml (R74.99) and 200ml (R109.99). For further information on this amazing product visit www.bio-oil.com

September Glossybox

My September Glossybox was crammed full of wonderful treats, quite a few brands that I have been dying to try, two different fragrances (one of my favourite parts of beauty boxes) and even a rather trendy gold cuff bangle!

  • Prada Candy by Prada – this is a fragrance I have been wanting to try for a while! The packaging is so pretty and pink! The fragrance is quite subtle in my opinion, feminine and sophisticated. A good fragrance for during the day as it is not too over powering, with top notes of caramel and warm vanilla tones, which I love.
  • CH L’eau by Carolina Herrera – out of the two fragrances in this months box this is my favourite! All though the fragrance is said to be flowery on the nose, it is not overly floral. I found it rather fresh with quite a spicy finish, more of a romantic evening out fragrance – so pretty! {Mr loves it too – I may have to hint for it to appear in my Christmas stocking!}
  • Sans Soucis Deep Moist Depot – this two-phase moisture concentrate by Sans Soucis combines botanical ingredients with enriching minerals. It is suitable for all skin types and can be applied to cleansed skin daily. You are required to shake well before use to combine the two-phase ingredients into an emulsion.
  • L’Occitane Almond Milk Concentrate – this creamy formula is suitable for all over body use. It combines almond protein and soft silicium to help support collage synthesis, into a wonderfully rich milk concentrate to help firm and tone the skin.
  • Salon Care Moisture Boost Serum – this locally manufactured serum uses Hyaluronic Acid to boost the skin and help retain moisture. I think that a serum should be a part of your daily skin care regime, especially as you start getting a bit older. I have used another product with Hyaluronic Acid and found it really firms your skin and gives it an overall glow. My recommendation is to use a serum in the evening after cleansing.
  • 4 Flavour Gold Cuff – a great treat in this months box and bang on trend as well! Gold is a definite must for the season and a cuff is a great addition to your accessory collection for summer.
Please watch my video review below for more information and my thought on the products in the September Glossybox:

Beauty, Beauty Box, Beauty Pick of the Week, Beauty Products, Online Shopping

My September 2012 rubybox

I am a bit delayed with my review of My September rubybox but we have been rather busy over the past few weeks, my hubby’s youngest brother got married on Saturday! Needless to say it has been a little bit chaotic around here lately! I also prefer to try out the products for more than a week, before I report back about them. Without further a do here is my review:

September is the first birthday of rubybox and the also saw the joining of forces between rubybox and GlamBox, so this months box is all about celebrating!

  • Camilla Nail Polish – a full-size bottle of a pretty magenta nail polish perfect for the new season! I loved the colour but did find that the polish chipped fairly easliy but with it only costing R25.99 a bottle it great value for money.
  • Very Irresistiblle L’Intense by Givenchy – a very sensual, feminine fragrance. The fragrance is rather heady with notes of white musk, Turkish rose and patchouli – perfect for wearing in the long summer evenings ahead! A 50ml bottle will cost you R945.
  • Jean d’Aveze White Lotus Cream – I have adored using this cream and it will definitely be one that I will but again. I have been struggling with pigmentation for the past few years and tried a host of different treatments and creams, with most making the pigmentation worse. This cream on the other hand was soothing and calming on my skin. It is packed with soothing white lotus and plumping hyaluronic acid and I saw a dramatic difference in my skin after only a week of using it! At R560 for 50ml this cream is certainly not cheap but if you use it sparingly it should last a few months.
  • Palmolive Thermal Spa Turkish Bath – I am not really a shower gel gal, I much prefer a good old cake of soap but I am always willing to try something different! I must admit the gel has a wonderfully invigorating smell and does the job, leaving you feeling refreshed and pampered. This full-size product will cost you R34.99.
  • Piz Buin Tan & Protect SPF15 Lotion – I have to be really honest I have not tried the Piz Buin Tan Lotion yet, partly because the weather has been so hit and miss and with the wedding coming up I did not want to experiment with any new sun products, on my delicate winter-skin! So this is one I will have to get back to you on but it promises to deliver non-sticky, sweat and water-resistant SPF protection. A 150ml tube of the Piz-Buin Tan Lotion will cost you R190, which is on par with most other sun protection.

LUSH Opening in Cape Town

If you are not familiar with the LUSH brand then you have been missing out! I fell in love with their quirky style of cosmetics and bath products on our visits to the UK. The super exciting news is that they will be opening right here in the Mother City later this month!

This British High Street beauty retailer’s approach to retail-cosmetics is somewhat “out-the-box” – they are a self-proclaimed cosmetics grocers rather than a traditional cosmetics company. Think hand-made, natural and fresh merchandise, butchers’ blocks, pricing by weight, greaseproof paper wrapping and even best-by dates.

In LUSH’s “beauty delis”, soaps are piled high on Provencal-style wooden tables like strange exotic cheeses, whilst a myriad of orbs (fizzing bath ballistics) are presented in-store like perfectly round apples.

I’ve always loved the way fruit and vegetables are displayed in a grocery store,” says Mark Constantine, LUSH’s managing director who set up the company in 1995 with a close-knit team with whom he has worked for over 20 years. The inspiration behind the store design was, he says, “cheese shops and German veggie restaurants – and any fresh fish counter.”

At LUSH, customers are encouraged to choose their cosmetics personally from a pic’n’mix style display. You can choose from chunks of solid shampoo, bubble slices or from the Bio Fresh Range, where products carry use-by dates and are displayed on the chilled fish counter-style cabinet.

“The whole point of LUSH is that it should be fun for our customers and fun for us, while at the same time offering original products that work and give value for money. ” ~ Mark Constantine

LUSH cosmetics are made to be as natural as possible and are crammed with top quality organic (where possible) ingredients such as herbs, fruit, flowers and essential oils. They avoid the use of synthetic preservatives, which are damaging to the environment. Not only do they use the freshest ingredients but the majority of the products have little or no packaging, making it an ecologically responsible choice as well.

Product ingredients are clearly labelled and merchandise includes items that are suitable for both vegetarians and vegans. None of the LUSH products are tested on animals, and they also guarantee that none of their suppliers, test any of their raw materials (including those not bought directly by LUSH) on animals either.

With over 800 shops worldwide, the brand has grown dramatically since the first shop opened in Poole (UK) in April 1994. The September 2012 opening will see the launch of the first Lush store on African soil, here in our very own city – Cape Town!

For a little fun pop over to Lush.com and check your Emotional Brilliance:

Super Mom Blog will be attending the launch and will report back afterwards to tell you all about it, with a few pics as well!

To stay up to date with opening dates and product news you can follow LUSH on Facebook or Twitter.

My Top 4 Body Creams

Today I am sharing My Top 4 Body Creams with you, in no particular order. There are certain things a like about each one and tend to use them for different things.

  1. Woolworths Vanilla & Brown Sugar body butter – those that know me know that I LOVE vanilla! I enjoy using body butter, especially in winter when my skin is very dry. This body butter not only smells heavenly but it is very nourishing and does not leave your skin feeling sticky. It is particularly good to use after you have shaved your legs – very soothing!
  2. Beautiful Earth Ylang-Ylang & Rosewood body butter – this is really an amazing product which I reviewed a few months back. It is a wonderfully pure body butter made from only natural ingredients and essential oils, it has a soft subtle fragrance, which matches its pretty pink colour.  My tub is just about empty, so it is definitely time to order more.
  3. Busby Liquid Gold Intensive Moisturiser – this is not solely a body cream but I am using it as one. It is extremely moisturising for dry skin and also good for sensitive skin as it contains natural oils and beeswax. I would even go so far as to say it would be great for baby’s skin. It has a fairly thick consistency but is non-greasy and does not have much of a fragrance.
  4. Innoxa Balance Body Lotion with green tea extracts – this is one of the products that I received in my July rubybox and instantly feel in love with it. It is light and non-greasy and smells absolutely amazing, good enough to eat really!!
What is your favourite body cream or body butter? Please share them with us and what you love about them!
