Artjamming

www2

A few weeks ago we celebrated my eldest daughter’s 11th Birthday. Luckily being a January baby we have always been blessed with good weather, so a pool party or the like has been the theme. This year however we decided to change it up a bit and book a party at Artjamming, in Cavendish Square in Claremont. Both my girls love art so this seemed like the perfect venue!

What an amazing place, run by a wonderful young lady, Megan, who was both enthusiastic and hugely talented. After the girls were shown the ropes, they went about selecting their choice of paint colours – they all marvelled at just how vast the choice was!  They were then let loose to do whatever their creative spirit dictated. Most of them thought that a more abstract approach was the order of the day and we ended up with quite a few Jackson Pollack inspired pieces!

All in all it was a fun-filled, creative way to spend an afternoon and celebrate a special person’s birthday. If you are looking for a party venue for your kids or just a fun family outing have a look at their website, Artjamming,  it is well worth a visit!

Jacobsbaai – A Beach Lovers Paradise!

0262

As I have mentioned before one of our favourite places for a weekend getaway is the remote area of Jacobsbaai, it is up the West Coast of South Africa, heading out of Cape Town, in the direction of Vredenberg. We have a beautiful family holiday home there, decorated in distinctly beach style decor, which allows the space to be both tranquil and luxurious! It truly is a beach-lovers paradise.

026

On a recent trip up to Jacobsbaai, we were fortunate enough to have suitable sea-faring weather! Well when I say we, I mean my eldest daughter, her Dad and Grandpa. We have discovered that our eldest has a passionate love of the sea – or should I say of extreme adventure sports, which include boating, crayfishing and boogie-boarding! Needless to say all a bit nerve-wracking for the mother involved – ME! The interesting thing is that I was pretty much the same as a child, it is only recently that I have decided that swimming with sharks actually does sound dangerous and somewhat life threatening.

The boat trip was rather successful and the fisher-folk managed to catch a few crayfish, crabs and a fish! I was rather happy with this outcome seeing as I love crayfish! So the fishing crew returned rather chuffed with themselves and we could all enjoy the bounty that they caught, as an appetiser before dinner – yum!

A few other places to stay up the West Coast include: Langebaan, the quaint fishing village of Paternoster – where you will find lots of lovely B&B’s and self catering accommodation and the beautiful Shelley Point Hotel & Spa.

Cape Town’s Premier Birth Photographer

Real Women Real Life Blomerus Photography

The first post in my new series  “Life Insights – Real Women.Real Life.”

As parents we know the importance of capturing special memories and what is more special than the birth of your precious baby!

We all have birth stories to share; many with a great deal of drama attached others “a walk in the park”. Although I remember snippets of my births, which are hazy at best thanks to strong drugs, I have all the memories captured forever, in print. I could not imagine being without these photographs to look back on, especially as your littlies grow up into not such littlies!

I must admit the concept of a birth photographer was new to me but what a wonderful thing. We make such a big deal about other momentous occasions and hire the best professional photographers, so why not for a birth? It would certainly take the pressure off of the Dad- to- be, allowing him to truly witness the moment without unnecessary distractions.

So now you ask – where can we find such a person? Well I have recently had the privilege of meeting, through the awesome medium of digital technology, a wonderful photographer who specialises in birth photography!

Her name is Marysol and she is a second generation photographer, who has her father to thank for her love of photography. She is a Cuban-American, now married to a South African and calls Cape Town her home. She herself is a mother of two.

The journeys, by which I had children, by adoption and by birth, have profoundly shaped my life and my motherhood. I know how important it is to have images of these events because I’ve been on the other side of the camera too. – Marysol Blomerus

What is a birth photographer?

Marisol takes photojournalism style photos documenting the following:

  • labour: the build-up to your baby’s arrival, the location, the emotions, the story complete with all the details.
  • delivery: the first moments you and/or your partner see your baby
  • new family: those first precious hours with your child, baby weighing, bonding time, perhaps meeting other siblings and family
  • new-born: your only hours old infant, mindful of not over stimulating them.

I’m capturing your birth story, documenting the day you can never recreate. – Marysol Blomerus

Please visit Marysol’s website, Blomerus Photography, to find out more about this amazing woman, and see more of her wonderful birth photography.

Contact Marysol for more details – Email: [email protected] or Phone: 072 285 7438 [/note]

Or to visit her website click here you can also find her on Facebook.
